Job Description

High-end residential design firm located in New York is seeking a full-time creative, experienced Design Studio Director with strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects from concept through installation. A strong understanding of modern, antique, and contemporary furnishings, custom fabrication, project and construction management, excellent presentation skills and the ability to prioritize is essential. We are a collaborative firm, and we are looking for a star candidate to lead our projects.

• Managing a team of 2 Senior Designers, 2 Junior Designers, Project Manager, Design Assistant, and Interns.
• Oversee client presentation preparation.
• Conduct client meetings with the Principal and/or Senior Designer.
• Work closely with the Principal to understand the creative vision and direction for each project
• Provide direction to the staff from concept, though sourcing and purchasing, to installation and styling.
• Drive the execution of the Principal's vision in all areas of Interior design
• Review and comment on designers’ work to ensure design vision is achieved including FF&E selection, Art, and Accessories.
• Actively manage the design team including daily prioritization and delegation, weekly staff meetings, client meetings and presentations.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, schedules, and calendars in conjunction with the Business Manager. Create and drive a development time-in-action calendar with a clear understanding of factory lead times to achieve key development milestones.
• Interview and review intermediate/junior staff and new hires alongside the Principal and Business Manager.
• Contribution to the strategic thinking of the office including future growth and structure

Job Requirements

• Previous experience managing a staff of Designers.
• Extremely detail oriented and organized.
• Ability to brainstorm design quickly, sketch ideas, think on your feet and juggle multiple design challenges with clarity and conviction
• Ability to think strategically and participate in executive-level planning
• Ability to work in a face-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills.
• Polished appearance and manner.
• Experience with large-scale projects and custom furniture.
• Experience with fine art, antiques and product design.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite.

After a management role at La Reserve Hotel where he assisted in the conversion of the hotel into condominiums, David pursued further education at the New York School of Interior Design. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for NYSID and Kip’s Bay Boys & Girls Club.
