Job Description

Working with the Principal and leading junior staff, the Junior Project Manager is a key creative contributor to all phases of high-end, residential interior architecture and design from initial concept, through construction to installation. This position requires a strong knowledge of architectural solutions, construction process, project management and coordination as well as knowledge of interior design, materials, space planning, and custom furniture design. This is a position requiring leadership experience and independent judgment in the course of daily interactions with peers, clients and vendors.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTION:
• Organize the work efforts of the project team on a day-to-day basis and act as the primary facilitator of communication with the Client and other members of the project team.
• Lead and contribute to the formulation of project design philosophy.
• Direct and supervise work of junior level staff in preparation of drawings, specification studies, presentations and other project tasks. Mentor and train junior staff in constructive and thoughtful manner. Monitor time spent by staff at all levels during all project phases.
• Actively monitor project progress; identify issues for resolution and develop strategies for presentation to Client.
• Initiate the development of design solutions and details, check the work of junior team members, and coordinate work with others on the project team.
• Maintain oversight during the construction phase of the project and attend progress review meetings.
• Research and promote innovative system applications to improve quality of work and efficiency.
• Promote a positive team effort by cooperative and interactive working methods and set a high example of professionalism and leadership for junior staff.
• Must be a capable leader with an authoritative manner, but willing to listen to others and to use input from all sources available. Confront inadequate performance in a constructive manner.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
• 4-year degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture
• At least 5 years of experience working in high-end residential design and developing and coordinating construction documents, specification packages, etc.
• Experience and comfort managing junior staff in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Strong technical knowledge of design genres and architecture history

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
• Fluency in AutoCAD or ArchiCAD a must. SketchUp and Adobe Suite preferred. Rhino and/or 3D Studio Max a plus
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Design Manager
• Highly developed aesthetic sense in the use of materials, color, form, texture, proportion, composition
• Thorough understanding of building systems, engineering concepts and the construction process including creating construction documents, RFI, ASI/IDSK review/response, consultant coordination
• Appreciation for aesthetic objectives set forth in the design approach and commitment to implementing these through construction. Experience in material sourcing and specification, visual research, furniture sourcing and design, graphic and visual presentations, as well as maintaining budgets and project timelines
• Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals including clients, consultants, code officials and construction trades
• Take charge attitude; outgoing and confident personality balanced with respectful, constructive and even-tempered management style
• Strong, clear and service-oriented communication and presentation skills
• Proven leadership abilities and mature judgment
