Kathleen Walsh Interiors, a boutique residential design studio with offices in New York and Wellesley, MA, is looking for an Intermediate to Senior Interior Designer to join our NYC team.
We create deeply personal, soul-filled homes - full-scale, single-family residential projects across New York, New England, and beyond, where luxury meets warmth and the perfect imperfection of things made by hand. This is a hands-on role for a designer who wants real ownership: leading projects from the Principal's vision through to a finished, lived-in home.
The Role
You'll take the lead from our Principal and carry projects through to completion, working closely with a small, tight-knit team. You're comfortable being the person in the room — with clients, contractors, and vendors alike — translating ideas into elegant, buildable plans and keeping every detail, and every person, moving in the same direction.
You will:
Craft elegant furniture plans and lead interior architecture and detailing
Finalize presentation materials and fine-tune specifications
Balance budgets and oversee product proposals and their presentation
Partner with our Project Coordinators and oversee installations
Serve as a clear, organized point of contact for clients and project partners from design through construction
Bring an eye trained on interior architecture and detailing — this matters a lot to us
What You Bring
-7–10+ years of rigorous, high-end residential design experience, including a multi-year tenure at the same firm
-A 4-year BFA/BS in Interior Design, or a 2-year Master's in Interior Design
-Fluency in AutoCAD, producing elegant furniture plans and detailed millwork, bath, and kitchen designs
-SketchUp proficiency or strong hand-drawing skills, for quickly communicating ideas internally
-Working knowledge of Studio Designer, with the ability to produce regular project reports
-A well-developed sourcing network — from leading industry partners to under-the-radar vendors — across price points from high-end to chic-but-budget-friendly
-A genuine curiosity about design across cultures and eras, and the ability to design through the lens of a client's own taste
-A valid US driver's license and the ability to travel regularly to project sites in CT and MA
-Legal authorization to work in the US and fluent, clear English communication
Compensation
-Base Salary: $85-100K, commensurate with experience
-To start: 2 weeks vacation + December holiday week closure,
-Paid sick and Personal days, all major holidays.
-Medical: Contribution
-Retirement: After 1 year of work with us

Our Studio
KWI is an award winning firm with over 20 years of excellent work and deeply valued relationships. We work as an in-person studio and strongly believe we do our best work together, in the room. That said, we offer flexibility, and once a designer has found their rhythm with us, occasional Friday remote work is welcome. You should be comfortable on job sites, energized by working with a small core team (ours runs about 3–4 people deep), and be ready to pitch in at every level — nothing is too small for anyone here, principal included.
