Achille Salvagni unveils a new Palm Beach outpost, Ernesta expands to Dallas, and more

From the City That Never Sleeps to the City of Light, BOH has gathered all the showroom news to have on your radar in December.

Showroom Spotlight
The new Achille Salvagni Atelier brings Roman artistry to Palm Beach’s Worth Avenue, joining outposts in New York and London to showcase the designer’s contemporary luxury furniture creations crafted in materials like bronze, onyx and mahogany. “Palm Beach is not a geographical expansion or commercial expansion; it is more about continuing a dialogue between design and place and reinvention,” Salvagni tells Business of Home. “These elements are very important to our work, and we wanted the physical space to embody the philosophy and to have the right crowd and the right kind of collector ready to appreciate and absorb our message.”

The location’s design is neutral and airy, allowing the pieces to stand out. “Not as plain or as cold as an art gallery, it has [more of] a homey feeling—much warmer, with curves,” he says. “An absence of edges creates a soft environmental feeling that makes the client embrace [the collections without] any elements that would distract from the reading of the object itself.” The space is divided into two sections: The first room takes more of a traditional display approach, while the other has a more home-like design, with the color palette changing based on the season or the mood of the changing exhibitions. (Right now, it’s swathed in a warm terra cotta hue.)

Like Salvagni’s other locations, the Palm Beach gallery has elements that honor the local scenery. “We want an ocean vibe that [speaks] the Florida language. These are very, very subtle touches. I want to play the game with a very minimal approach, not overwhelming or overdressing the design too much,” he says. “The color palette, the addition of certain pieces and the addition of certain designs are fully dedicated to the Palm Beach gallery, so you cannot [find] those objects in any other [Achille Salvagni Atelier].”

For example, his new Oceano I and II cabinets, only available in this location, are wrapped in a baby blue parchment that nods to the nearby ocean, and feature bronze geometric accents with a palm motif. To round out the space, these items, as well as other contemporary and collectible pieces (ranging from mirrors and lighting to tables and seating) are displayed alongside a range of antiques—some of which are available for purchase. “Beauty is our primary goal,” says Salvagni. “Sometimes we show [objects] for the sake of the beauty themselves. It’s a very unique approach to the collectible design world. It’s not the typical approach where we design, produce and sell. There are a lot of phases in between that create a unique story.”

He aims to introduce the brand’s limited-edition pieces to the community and bring Italian artisanship to South Florida. “The Atelier now [employs] around 70 craftsmen, and Rome remains the beating heart of the work,” says Salvagni. “Each gallery is an attempt to expand the message in a very specific and dedicated way. Rome is the center. The branches of this tree are growing independently, correlated between them in a loyal way, but still very independent for the approach to the clientele, aesthetic and attitude.” 243b Worth Ave., Palm Beach
