Showroom Spotlight
This month, GreenRow, Williams-Sonoma’s sustainable home retail brand, unveiled its first-ever brick-and-mortar showroom, in the heart of New York’s SoHo neighborhood. The company, which launched online in May 2023, boasts a whole-home collection including furniture, rugs, bedding, bath, baby, tabletop, lighting and decor—much of it rendered in vibrant hues. “When I was researching other sustainable brands that were out there, they just didn’t have very much color,” says Jaimee Seabury, GreenRow’s vice president. “They were all kind of boring, bland and neutral. And so working with our [Williams-Sonoma] network of vendors, we were able to find ways to infuse color and personality and optimism in natural ways. The product has been so well received that we decided that it needed to have a showroom space.”

On a trip to New York, Seabury was drawn to an old building on Howard Street with white brick and a classic tin ceiling. Her team embraced the natural imperfections of the space—a move that also avoided a full-scale renovation: They simply restained the floor, put up some wallpaper and painted the exterior green. Inside, old books on the ottomans and vintage French doors lend a lived-in quality to the space. “I wanted it to feel like a home, so that when you walk in, it doesn’t feel like a showroom—it feels like you want to sit down on the sofa,” she says. “I just wanted people to sit and lounge and take it all in.”

The space is set up in living and dining room vignettes, with a bedroom section in the back that features three beds, a hand-painted wall mural and samples of all the brand’s bedding collections. Six sofas are displayed throughout the showroom—each crafted with cocomat, jute, recycled muslin and responsibly sourced wool—alongside numerous occasional chairs. “We have all of our upholstery fabrics,” says Seabury. “There’s about 30 of them now, so you can touch and feel all of the product. You can sit on the sofas, which was most exciting to me, because we make all of our sofas out of natural materials.” The store also features original artwork by Steve Howell and Murano glass mirrors and chandeliers, which are sprinkled among a curated selection of vintage art, mirrors and lighting—all available to order.

Seabury has high hopes for the brand’s first outpost. “I think this store is just bringing it to life for people to touch and feel and experience it, because everybody’s become very fond of it online. We’re growing, and we love to bring optimism and joy in a world that’s otherwise a little crazy right now,” she says. “At the same time, sustainability is at the forefront. I want people to walk into the store and know that we’ve done all the research, and we’ve certified everything. They don’t have to think about it, they just have to enjoy it.” 47 Howard St., New York
