Showroom Spotlight
Miami has a new design destination. Interiors studio Moniomi unveiled La Sala de Moniomi—an atelier where furniture, art and collectible design converge under one roof. Founders Monica Santayana and Ronald Alvarez translated their company’s bold and eclectic style into a space that was a long time coming. “This has been a dream in the works,” Santayana tells Business of Home. “We didn’t really have a place [in Miami] that was a showroom [and] an inspirational experience. [Here, you typically see] showrooms that are one-line, vendor-type spaces. We didn’t really have [many] collective spaces that allowed for multiple artists to show [their] creative energy.”
The firm also needed a place to showcase its own growing furniture collection. “That’s how [the project] initiated,” says Santayana. “In this discussion with fellow artists and designers, there was a real interest in perhaps joining forces and being displayed in our space. We had mentioned to them that we’ve always seen it as this community hub, where we would have panels and host events. There are a lot of artists and designers that don’t really have a presence in Miami. It started to evolve into a curated space of our beloved artists and designers and our own pieces that culminate in what we call La Sala.”
Upon entering, guests encounter a vibrant living room filled with a selection of Moniomi furniture. Off the main space is a lounge area swathed in a hand-painted mural of gold, chartreuse and peach with a string of lights overhead. “That’s the heart of our studio,” she says. “You’re enveloped in this kind of swamp foliage vibe. It has a bar—our little hangout. There are little unexpected details. As you turn into the bathroom hallway, you’re welcomed by a custom Porter Teleo wallcovering that we collaborated on, so even the bathrooms are a treat. We want every single thing in our space to be a wow moment, to be a surprise.”
The firm’s interior design studio is housed in the same building, in order to give design clients the full sense of what a Moniomi-designed space looks and feels like. “La Sala is the living room that welcomes you, and then behind that, you come into our studio,” says Alvarez. “The idea is that it is an immersive space where you get to really intimately meet Moniomi.”
In addition to the brand’s own creations, the showroom features an extensive roster of designers and artists, including rug companies Kyle Bunting, Art + Loom, and Berlin-based Lyk Carpet; ceramicist Sean Gerstley; Indian home decor studio Viya by Vikram Goyal; and Australian furniture maker DenHolm—along with smaller, collectible items by Sticky Glass, Corsi Design, Italian brand Once Milano, and Karen Gayle Tinney.
The founding duo are pleased with what this new space represents for their brand and its future. “Ronald and I are not just interior designers creating pretty homes—we want to create amazing experiences,” says Santayana. “Seeing this come to life, we want to show the world and everyone what Moniomi is capable of beyond home interiors.” 7275 NW First Court, Unit 102, Miami
