In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.
Monica Santayana and Ronald Alvarez take a fashion-forward approach to their interiors. The husband-and-wife team behind Miami-based design firm Moniomi use a well-balanced blend of avant-garde pieces and time-honored motifs to create artful yet elegant spaces.
For their current flat lay—inspired by the colors of sunset and dusk—the pair employed a similar ethos. Using an of-the-moment mix of eye-catching linework and soothing blush hues, they fostered a scheme that strikes the balance between serene and spirited. “We wanted to convey the emotions associated with watching the sun set,” says Santayana. “The calmness, the fleeting beauty and the sense of peace it brings.”
The final design showcases an array of sumptuous finishes, including ceramic zellige tile and concrete terrazzo alongside an assortment of zippy graphic prints and bold silhouettes. “Geometry, playful pattern interplay and saturated tones tie the flat lay together,” says Alvarez. “The items not only harmonize visually, but also evoke a sense of modernity, sophistication and artistic flair.”
