Britany Simon’s undeniably cool mix of metal furniture, moiré wallcoverings and artful lighting

In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.

Britany Simon is drawn to unexpected pieces that feel offbeat yet carefully considered. The Scottsdale, Arizona, designer gravitates toward exaggerated proportions, tactile surfaces and bold color. “My inspiration often comes from fashion, contemporary art and the tension between refinement and irreverence,” she tells Business of Home.

Simon’s current mood board features a collage of what she’s currently coveting, including a mirror-polished stainless steel coffee table and a low-profile sofa with a sinuous backrest. “There is a decidedly cool, feminine energy, balanced by architectural forms, sculptural objects and substantial materials,” she explains. “I love starting with a sophisticated foundation and then layering in those slightly surprising moments that give a space personality and keep it from feeling too safe or predictable.”

The final scheme strikes the balance between polished and playful. “Together, these selections feel fresh, expressive and a little edgy—the kind of pieces that can give an interior its point of view without sacrificing longevity,” she says. “It feels collected and elevated without taking itself too seriously.”

Here, the designer breaks down the details, from a Picasso-inspired painting to a chair with squiggly legs.
