An executive shake-up is underway at Holly Hunt. Business of Home has learned that president Marc Szafran and executive creative director Joannah Kornak—a 26-year veteran of the brand—are out. The company will now be overseen by Tony Manzari, president of sister brand Maharam.
A spokesperson for Holly Hunt parent company MillerKnoll confirmed the news, saying that the design giant was bringing together “Holly Hunt and our textiles brands under one leader, Tony Manzari. Tony has more than 40 years of experience leading design brands including Maharam, Knoll Textiles and Edelman Leather.”
According to multiple sources with knowledge of the company, other Holly Hunt managers were also let go; the spokesperson from MillerKnoll declined to comment on the scope of the layoffs.
The move is the latest significant internal shift after Holly Hunt was moved into MillerKnoll’s global retail group under the purview of Debbie Propst in 2025. The design brand came under the conglomerate’s umbrella when Knoll purchased the company in 2014 in a $95 million all-cash deal. At the time, Hunt herself stayed on to run the business that she had founded in Chicago in the early 1980s. When she stepped down as CEO in 2020, she tapped Szafran to take over. A year later, Knoll and Herman Miller combined in the design industry’s largest-ever merger.
Hunt got into the showroom business in 1983, when she bought R.J. Randolph, a small showroom in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart. The following year, she changed the company name to her own, and began to expand. The brand currently has 11 showroom locations across the country and one in London.
Knoll acquired the business with the intention of diversifying its portfolio. As the parent company’s then-CEO, Andrew Cogan, said at the time: “The acquisition of Holly Hunt accelerates our high-design residential and consumer strategy and opens up new sources of revenue that complement our existing office and specialty businesses.”
Szafran came to Holly Hunt from Michael Smith Inc., where he was president and chief operating officer for eight years. Before that, he served as president and general counsel for Thom Filicia Inc. Kornak joined the company in 2000, working alongside its founder, and took over the creative direction in 2016.
