It was a trendsetting week in North Carolina. Tens of thousands of decor connoisseurs—including yours truly—congregated in High Point on a mission to unearth the latest and greatest designs. From Western-themed performance fabrics to outdoor-friendly braided dining tables, here are some of the most impressive launches at Spring Market.
Bernhardt’s latest offerings made us want to break out in song. Our current crushes from the soon-to-launch line include the Italian modernist Valenti sectional; the terrazzo-finished Lucia cocktail table; and Cestino, a striking buffet with a faceted wood-and-metal facade and six interior shelves.
DuVäl Reynolds’s dapper designs for House of DuVäl, his new line for Sherrill Furniture, are a modern spin on tailor-made furnishings. Statement-makers from the streamlined series include a dark plum ottoman with a reeded wood base, an elegant armchair with turned legs and chocolate brown upholstery, and a multifunctional coffee table with a plaid ottoman that can slide out for extra seating.
Charlotte Lucas’s collaboration with Taylor King captured our hearts and imaginations. An homage to the Charlotte-based designer’s Southern roots, the whimsical series offers everything from a bullion fringe–trimmed sectional to a pale yellow midcentury-style armchair to a double-sided settee with a button-tufted back and sage green velvet upholstery.
Noz Nozawa’s second collection for Corbett Lighting is a sculptural masterpiece. Standouts from from the fashion-forward line include the ribbon-like Kune semi-flush mount; the silk-shaded Hoshi chandelier; and the Piasu Linear pendant, a jewelry-inspired stunner with bleached abaca–wrapped mariner chains, rattan shades and two cloud-etched glass globes.
Highland House was a pattern-rich wonderland courtesy of Barrie Benson’s 10th-anniversary collection. The exuberant collaboration reimagines an array of traditional silhouettes in contemporary fabrics, such as the 1930s Scandi-style Annie chaise; the neoclassical Carolyn desk; and the Renzo sofa, a gently rounded sectional with upholstered feet and Turkish corner cushions.
Barry Dixon’s latest capsule collection for Arteriors is a love letter to the natural world. The line’s most daydream-inducing debuts include the vining Muscadine floor lamp; the monolithic Boulder swivel lounge chair; the frond-covered Will o’ the Wisp chandelier; and the Faun entry table, a Banswara marble–topped beauty with a pedestal base reminiscent of a tree trunk.
Materiality reigned inside the Palecek showroom. Highly touchable introductions from the Richmond, California–based brand include the grasscloth-upholstered Montreal bed; the scrolled Allegro rattan tables; and Brayden, a hand-distressed armchair outfitted in a chevron pattern woven from lampakanay rope.
Rowe’s exclusive collaboration with Crypton pays tribute to classic Western motifs. Based on an archival textile, the high-performing design, named Barrio Stripe, boasts 100,000 double rubs and comes in three multitonal colorways: Navy, Cocoa and Midnight.
Gabby dropped 91 covetable new pieces. Crafted from an enviable range of natural materials, such as leather and walnut, showstoppers from the Alabama–based brand’s spring collection include an ashwood coffee table with edges that evoke wavy fabric, and a beechwood accent chair with a woven back and armrests inspired by traditional snowshoes.
At Theodore Alexander, Lord Charles Spencer walked us through the latest additions to the Althorp Living History collection. The new line, called Sunderland, reinvents more than two dozen antiques from the historic estate’s archives as shoppable pieces, including the flame veneered India Silk four-poster king bed; the gilt wood–framed Tapestry Room mirror; and the Portly Gentleman, an anthropomorphic mahogany chest with wooden feet dressed in velvet slippers emblazoned with the Spencer family crest.
Made Goods rolled out more than 150 mood-boosting designs at The Bank on Wrenn. Along with the scalloped wicker-style Gretel bed and the hemp-wrapped Parson nightstand, day brighteners include the reinforced terrazzo-finished Isolde coffee table and the Lainey bookcase set, a pagoda-shaped wonder composed of three individual structures with rattan frames and woven backs.
As usual, the Four Hands showroom was teeming with of-the-moment eye candy. Amber Lewis’s inaugural line of lighting, which features head-turners such as the acid-washed Asten floor lamp and the brutalist Calla bookshelf lamp, was on full display alongside a curated selection of emotive prints by New York–based street photographer Barbara Alper—including a vibrant photo of activist Marsha P. Johnson taken at the 1982 Pride March—available exclusively through the Austin brand’s art studio.
Eric Ross was on hand to walk us through his antique-fueled Found collaboration with Chelsea House. Though the spindled Bobbin drink table and the gently turned Jacobean end table first captured our imaginations, it was Treillage, a commanding secretary desk with a mirrored top and fretwork facade, that made us late to our next appointment.
The Collective showcase at Abner Henry featured four heart-stopping designer-crafted vignettes. On display were an assortment of artfully executed Amish-made works by the Ohio-based brand, including Betsy Wentz’s geometric Lolo lounge; Helen Bergin’s weathered blue Mary Jane bed; Studio Dixon Rye’s two-tone Varnell vitrine; and Nikki Levy’s pooled fabric–like Draped desk.
David Phoenix added 40 heirloom-worthy designs to his ongoing collaboration with Hickory Chair. The collection references everything from Italian modernism to European antiques, and features eye-catchers such as the svelte Aurelia swivel chair and the Oliver cocktail table, a trestled charmer with a honed Negresco Granite top and a quartered ashwood base.
Thomas Pheasant drew inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman gardens when designing his Naxos outdoor collection for McGuire. Set among topiary-like green sofas and rugs adorned in hedge-maze motifs, the line spans 19 elegant pieces punctuated by blackened, hammered steel frames, including a bolster pillow–accented chaise longue and a travertine-topped dining table with X-shaped stretchers.
Caracole’s showroom was filled with colorful new Italian modernist designs. Highlights from the primary-hued collection include the squiggly, glossy rouge Gelee accent chair; the shiny azure Paragon dining table; the bright red Speck spot table; and the ocher Jagger sofa.
The Souf collection by Art Resources is a study in natural wool. The rugs, which were showcased at Market Square among a flock of adorable miniature sheep sculptures, are hand-loomed by Pakistani artisans and span dozens of enchanting fleece-based models, including a pastel-hued number adorned in a modern medallion motif and a mixed-pile gem in shades of gold and cream.
Odette Collective’s new showroom perked us up faster than a catnap. The airy 1,935-square-foot space was filled to the brim with freshly reupholstered antique frames and collectible artworks, including paintings by Meredith Keith and Marcy Cook Vreeland, displayed alongside a curvaceous Sophia sofa covered with Rhinne’s frond-filled Botanico fabric in Avocado.
The Design Social Pop-Up made a splashy debut at High Point. Hosted at the buzzy new Amadi Collective space, the maker-driven showcase featured swoon-worthy designs from dozens of rising brands, including Sarah von Dreele’s ditsy floral Cornwall wallcovering; A Rum Fellow’s checkered jute-and-wool Folk flatweave rug; and Supply Showroom’s blossomy Granada paper.
Memoire Design by Mainly Baskets Home’s newly expanded outdoor collection stopped us in our tracks. Composed of weather-resistant wicker-like materials and available in natural and dark walnut finishes, introductions include a braided dining table and a clean-lined planter, as well as two delightful new designs by Sarah Bartholomew: the Louis Trellis dining chair and the soon-to-launch Chatham dining table.
