More consolidation in the world of fabric. Thibaut, the 140-year-old New Jersey–based luxury fabric, wallcovering and furniture company, has acquired California-based textile brand Pindler. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Pindler has been built over 80 years on the foundations of extraordinary product and a relentless dedication to clients,” Thibaut CEO Rick Kilmer said in a statement accompanying the news. “This acquisition deepens our West Coast presence, adds critical pricing breadth, and brings a deeply loyal design community into our family of brands.”
The purchase marks Thibaut’s third acquisition in four years, after it snapped up Italian brand Coraggio in 2022 and Rosemary Hallgarten’s eponymous company in 2024. Following the latter, Kilmer foreshadowed future acquisitions, telling Business of Home that “if you’ve got a good business plan and you stick to it, you’ve got a team that can execute, and you’ve got products that can stand on their own, there are always opportunities out there.”
At the time, Thibaut was owned by private equity firm Norwest Equity Partners, which bought the brand in 2021. In May of this year, it was acquired from Norwest by another private equity firm, Quad-C.
The news follows a larger trend in the textile business, as well-capitalized larger companies continue to absorb smaller, often family-owned businesses. In recent years Schumacher purchased artisan house Tillett Textiles; Kravet acquired Caroline Cecil Textiles; and Fabricut bought Clarence House. Kravet itself, a fifth-generation family-owned business, was acquired by private investment firm Dunes Point Capital in 2024.
Pindler’s history dates back to 1947, when two brothers—Matthew and Carl Pindler—started the business as a drapery jobber in Los Angeles. Over the decades, the business expanded into selling fabric direct to designers and became a West Coast institution; it now occupies a large headquarters in Moorpark, a Los Angeles suburb. According to its website, the company, which operates 18 showrooms across the U.S., was purchased in 1988 by Curt Pindler, Carl Pindler’s son and the current CEO.
“The Pindler family and company have always put clients and craft first—that has been true since 1947, and will remain true going forward,” said Sean Quinn, Pindler’s president, in a statement. “Joining the Thibaut family gives us the platform to do even more of what we love while preserving the personal service our clients have always depended on.”
