Last month, Designers + Builders Alliance of Long Island (DBA) hosted Mystery by Design, its latest fundraising effort for Kids Need More. The sold-out party of 230 guests raised $25,000 for the organization, which will help send kids with cancer and life-threatening illnesses to a weeklong sleepaway camp and purchase a mobile RV to bring the experience to sick kids who can’t travel.

The party was abound with music, drinks, food and a mystery play created by design industry pros. When guests arrived, they were assigned teams headed by design celebrities dressed as characters from the story. The teams had to search for clues from the cast members to discover the villain. Guests in attendance included Tyler Wisler, Ellen Baker, Justin Shaulis, Rio Hamilton, Iris Dankner and Robin Baron

“The theme idea was a collaborative effort between Nicole Passman of Stark Carpet and myself and the other committee members,” says Marlaina Teich, vice president of DBA. “We wanted to have an industry event unlike any other. We wanted it to be a fun and interactive party—gathering together the top industry ‘celebrities’ made it even more of an exciting draw for the public as well as industry.”

Next up for DBA is the Gold Gala on January 27 at Kids Need More’s Coral House in Baldwin, where funds will be raised to renovate and outfit the RV purchased from the Mystery by Design fundraiser.
