For designers just discovering Dovetail, how would you describe the brand and its point of view?
For more than 30 years, we’ve believed that great design should have character, feel approachable, and ultimately work beautifully for the way people live. Our assortment brings together furniture, lighting, art, decor and outdoor pieces across a range of styles, but there’s a common thread throughout: thoughtful design, natural materials, distinctive details, and pieces that bring warmth and personality to a room. We want designers to be able to discover something unexpected while still finding pieces that feel easy to incorporate into their own aesthetic.
What sets Dovetail apart in today’s furniture landscape?
It’s a combination of design, breadth and service. We offer more than 3,000 pieces across the home, with new introductions throughout the year, so there’s always something else to discover. But breadth alone isn’t enough. We’re focused on offering pieces with strong design perspectives, quality materials, and details that give character. At the same time, we’ve built the business to be a dependable partner to retailers and designers. That balance between inspiring products and extensive, accessible sourcing is an important part of Dovetail’s identity.
How do you maintain a distinct point of view across the diverse assortment of styles?
Our Style Houses help give structure to the range while allowing designers to explore different aesthetics. From the relaxed sensibility of California Casual and the updated classics of Timeless Traditional to the bolder statement of Dovetail Studio and the richness of Classic Heritage, each has its own distinct personality. What connects them is our approach to materials, proportion, texture and detail. We also design the assortment so pieces can work together across those boundaries. Designers aren’t limited to one prescribed look; they can mix styles to create something that feels personal to their project.
What role do materials and craftsmanship play in the Dovetail story?
They’re fundamental to the way we approach product. We work with responsibly sourced woods, reclaimed materials, natural fibers, leather, stone and metal, and we look for qualities that bring depth, warmth and character to a piece. Natural variation is something we embrace rather than try to hide. We want the materials themselves to become part of the story of the piece and how it lives in a home over time.
How do you see designers using Dovetail as a resource for their projects?
We want Dovetail to be a resource designers can return to again and again. With more than 3,000 pieces in our assortment, there’s flexibility to source a single statement piece or build out a much larger portion of a home. The range of styles and price points also gives designers room to work with different clients and aesthetics without losing that sense of thoughtful design. Ultimately, we want to give designers more possibilities and make it easier for them to find pieces that support their creative vision.
What can designers expect when they work with Dovetail?
Our goal is to make the sourcing process as straightforward and supportive as possible. Through our Trade & Design Program, designers can register online with no minimum order requirement and receive access to exclusive trade pricing tiers, special freight rates and personalized support. We also offer services such as white-glove delivery, plus complimentary swatches and other marketing assets that can help designers present selections to their clients. Beyond the program itself, we have dedicated account specialists and sales representatives across North America. We want designers to feel that they have a partner behind the products, someone who understands the needs of the trade and can help make their projects run more smoothly.
