January’s can’t-miss design events

Though a recent roster of industry organizations have decided to forgo their events this season, some of the biggest design fairs still plan to open their doors. Read on for BOH’s monthly calendar highlights, including conferences, trade shows, showhouses and design discussions.

Total Home & Gift Market
Dallas | Through January 11
The annual Total Home & Gift Market at Dallas Market Center connects retailers and manufacturers for a mix of home decor, gifts, gourmet, housewares, accessories and lighting. Along with permanent showrooms, the event features a multitude of temporary exhibitors, along with live panels and seminars, buyer receptions, Gourmet Market tastings and more. Attendees can check out programming such as the 2022 Sustainability Forecast with designers Shayla Copas and Christian Daw, a Lightovation trend report and a panel discussion on trends in gifted retail. 32nd Annual ARTS Awards Gala
Dallas | January 7
Hosted by Dallas Market Center and ART, this awards program will honor the top manufacturers, retailers, designers and sales representatives in the U.S. during a gala event held at the Hilton Anatole hotel. This year’s event will also recognize Norwalk Furniture president Caroline Hipple, an industry leader of three decades, for the Academy of Achievement distinction, which honors extraordinary contributions to the field. Atlanta Market
Atlanta | January 11–18
At this year’s Atlanta Market at AmericasMart, attendees can expect to find more than 8,000 brands across the categories of seasonal, gourmet, tabletop, outdoor and more. The show will also include an array of educational seminars, demos, industry networking events and tastemaker parties—look out for the “Ahead of the Curve East Coast Edition” series, in which designers Evan Millard, Ashley Ross, Lia Shin and April Tomlin will join Luxe Interiors + Design’s Southeast homes editor Kate Abney for a conversation on emerging design trends and new product inspirations. FOG Design+Art
San Francisco | January 20–23
Hosted at San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center, the FOG fair brings together 45 leading international galleries and both 20th-century and contemporary design dealers for a variety of exhibitions and programming. Attendees can tune in to keynote speeches and panel discussions on topics such as Bay Area artistry, the role of designers in shaping the metaverse, and NFTs as a new frontier for creativity. Plus, catch “21POP,” a special crafts installation created by Stanlee Gatti. For more info, click here.

Winter Las Vegas Market
Las Vegas | January 23–27
At the biannual Las Vegas Market, nearly 4,300 gift and home resources will be available both online and on-site across more than 500 home showroom offerings, including new cross-category spaces from Hooker Furnishings, Vahallan and The Howard Elliott Collection. To complement the home decor resources housed in permanent showrooms, the trade event will also feature close to 100 decor brands in four temporary exhibit categories: design, handmade, home and luxe.
