Seeking a Temp, Freelance Designer with the potential to develop into a part/full time position.
Velinda Hellen Design, a Los Angeles based design team is seeking to hire a freelance senior designer with at least 7 years of experience in bespoke residential design, project management and solution-based creativity. VHD offers the flexibility to work mostly from home, values employee travel, self-managed schedules and offers full benefits at 30 hour work weeks.
This designer will be experienced in and willing to work with varying budgets and scopes; from spend-conscious clients, via virtual platforms, to high-end, custom homes.
The ideal candidate will have led past design projects from start to finish and be adaptable to flexible hours (starting per diem, with company benefits available at 30 hours work weeks), have great attention to detail, be comfortable working independently with little direction and mostly virtual communication and be able to deliver all aspects of residential design on time, including: spatial plans, design and construction documents, and FF&E schedules. They will be organized, excited to grow in a start-up environment and confident to represent our collaborative, boutique team who aesthetically leans toward mixing old and new but prioritizes our clients’ unique taste and lifestyles.
Candidates need to be in or near Los Angeles and be available for the occasional in person team and client meetings, construction oversight, vendor correspondence and project procurement.
Applicants should be sure to submit a work sample/portfolio along with your CV resume.

7+ years of hands-on residential interior design experience. High-end design or additional commercial experience preferred

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Design, or equivalent experience
Extensive knowledge of design principles, aesthetics, and space planning and ability to independently drive a project from start to finish
Experience managing projects with specified budgets and timelines
Fluency in SketchUp, Photoshop and Microsoft/Google Suite a must
Creative problem-solving, organization, and time management skills with ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Velinda Hellen Design is a collective of designers with years' experience working as a team, pre-dating the formation of the company in 2020. Aiming to include projects of all sizes, budgets, and locations, VHD offers multiple ways of working together; Full Service Design (for projects located in Southern California looking for more-extensive renovation help) and E Design (for projects outside of SoCal or on more modest budgets/scopes of work). The Velinda Hellen Design philosophy is that the design should reflect the client more than the designer. They have a knack for mixing 'high' and 'low' and aim for results that feel cohesively-collected & curated but 'lived in'.
Coming from a background in business, visual storytelling and writing, founder Velinda Hellen made a home at Emily Henderson Design after a quick stint at UCLA studying Architectural Design. Combining all endeavors, for two years she juggled roles as creative producer, interior designer, writer and stylist with Emily Henderson, eventually also producing, research-writing and styling the New York Times Bestseller's second book, The New Design Rules, which was released in 2022 and aims to serve as design school cliff-notes for those who skip the program or otherwise need a field guide.
In 2020, Velinda dove into freelance-frenzy but was quickly joined by her EHD teammates and by the beginning of 2021 had grown from a solo designer to a team of six, spanning from Los Angeles to the Philippines. Having formed during the height of a global pandemic, VHD evolved with the ability to collaborate remotely and has found joy in getting to offer boutique design services to clients, regardless of location or project limitations.
