It was a whirlwind two days in New York. From ceramic bathroom-sink knobs to tassel-covered outdoor canopy beds, here are some of the best looks we saw at BDNY when the annual hospitality trade show returned to the Javits Center this week.
Fireclay Tile’s debut bathroom fixture designs made a splash at the fair: The launch, called Fireclay Bath, won the coveted Best of BDNY award for Bath & Spa. The new offerings span four collections across multiple metal finishes, including the minimalist Contour; the antique-inspired Emerson; the versatile Flatiron; and Foundry, which features gently curved fixtures and optional ceramic knob handles in your choice of 16 glazes.
Momentum’s booth was a wonderland of playful patterns and enticing materials. Along with the beguiling Idyllwild upholstery collection—which features highlights such as the op art–esque Ramona and the zigzagging Del Mar—crowd-pleasers include the metallic-accented, PVC-free Sardinia cork wallcovering, and the new Burgundy and Seafoam Terraleather textiles, hide alternatives made from biodegradable vinyl.
Hollis+Morris’s Color Drench offering brightened up DesignAgency’s and Studio DA’s “Midnight Garden” exhibition. The launch offers any of Toronto-based brand’s wood and metal light fixtures, such as the bestselling Molecule chandelier and Stala pendant, to be finished in a monochrome hue of your choice, including dark red, soft sage and indigo blue.
Alison Rose’s Artifact mosaic for Artistic Tile won the Best of BDNY award for Flooring—and rightfully so. An ode to ancient Roman styles, the rhythmic design showcases a medley of tumbled geometric shapes and sumptuously honed stones, and comes in colorways including polychromatic Bianco Dolomiti, pale Bianco Antico and dark Belgian Bluestone.
Four Hands’s newly launched hospitality offerings, and more specifically its latest collection of contract-grade Art Studio wallcoverings, drew a crowd in Hall 28. Printed to order in Austin, standouts include an olive-hued iteration of Paul Meyer’s donkey-adorned Burros wallpaper; Aileen Fitzgerald’s bucolic Harmonic Hills mural; and Limewash, an enveloping plaster-esque mural with a lightly textured finish.
The Global Views booth was brimming with brutalist eye candy from Studio A Home. In addition to the textured cast aluminum Astro table, the brand’s head-turning newcomers include the faux brass–finished bronze Fuyuki tree sculpture and the mesmerizing Mobile console, an iron-framed homage to Alexander Calder with a gold-leaf ball accent and a black marble top.
At the BD Mainstage, Ege Carpets’s innovative ReForm Transition series set a circularity-minded tone for the Saguez & Dash–designed “La Clairière” installation. Crafted in collaboration with Paris-based creative studio Manganèse Éditions, the nature-fueled floorcovering tiles are composed of recycled and regenerated materials—including salvaged plastic bottles and fishing nets—and provide a plush mixed pile underfoot.
Tuuci’s booth was a vibrant oasis in the middle of the Javits Center. Though the blossoming umbrella of the Ocean Master Max Bolero and the sleek slatted teak walls of the Max Solanox pergola first commanded our attention, it was the Lulu day lounge, a curtain-clad canopy bed trimmed in tassels and fringe, that ultimately made us kick our feet up and take five.
Arte debuted Cloud, a new high-relief wallcovering with sound-softening properties. Offered in four neutral shades—creamy Snow, sandy Shell, deep brown Truffle and crisp gray Fossil—the series is designed with a layer of noise-absorbing foam and a swirling, boucle-like surface to help reduce reverberations in a room.
Summer Classics’s sinuous Bari chaise longue beckoned us to sit down and relax. Handwoven from weather-resistant resin wicker in a charming two-toned chevron motif, the elegantly arched stunner features a stackable silhouette that supplies ample amounts of ergonomic support.
Meso’s colorful Lagunas collection for Design Within Reach stopped us straight in our tracks. Handmade from recycled glass by artisans in Guadalajara, Mexico, the collection introduces six whimsical tableware designs inspired by Mesoamerican pottery, including the forest green Ojo De Liebre vase and the bulbous, cobalt-charged Tezon bowl.
