Over 20 designer collaborations come to fruition this season

Companies often look to creative types—interior designers, fashion designers, product designers and museum archives—for a fresh set of eyes to collaborate with on product development. Editor at Large has made note of a number of creative unions set to debut this year that are sure to be show stoppers.

Here’s a look at some new collections of collaborative fabrics, furniture and accessories hitting the market:

Fashion icon Diane von Furstenberg has created a collection of home fabrics and trimmings for Kravet that showcase her sense of pattern and color. With this collection, Von Furstenberg brings high fashion into the home with prints, wovens, draperies and exotic trimmings.

A. Rudin has tapped interior designer Jeff Andrews to create a furniture collection due out this fall. The collection will include close to 20 pieces of primarily upholstery, with a few case goods as well.

William T. Georgis has teamed up with Maison Gerard for a furniture collection, which is due out this month. The suite of dramatic seating and tables features Georgis’s signature style—a mix of luxurious and unexpected materials with strong, geometric forms. Pieces include the Whalebone sofa, the Santa Sangre console and the Origami dining table.

In celebration of Roche Bobois’ 40th anniversary in the U.S., the company has teamed up with Stephen Burks for a collection of furniture. This is the first time Roche Bobois has collaborated with an American interior designer.

Waterworks has debuted its latest collaboration “The Formwork Collection” with renowned architectural firm Shelton, Mindel & Associates. The collection brings architecture 
to bath fittings, combining planes and
 geometric forms into shapes that reveal a 
timeless aesthetic.

HSN has tapped interior design duo John Loecke and Jason Oliver Nixon of Madcap Cottage for a collection of bedding, decorative pillows and window treatments. The collection launches at the end of August and will be available on HSN and HSN.com.

Interior designer Vicente Wolf has created “Color Diaries,” a new line of exclusive paint colors for PPG Pittsburgh Paints.

Oscar de la Renta has created a limited-edition tabletop collection in collaboration with The New York Botanical Garden. The collection consists of 20 pieces that celebrate the designer’s passion for gardening and botanical patterns.

Celebrated French designer Vincent Darré and Poltrona Frau have collaborated to debut a series of limited-edition furniture pieces at Paris’ Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche. The exhibition of these pieces is now on view through June 21.

Amanda Nisbet’s collection for Neirmann Weeks debuts nationwide this month and includes furniture, lighting and mirrors—all made in the U.S.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of renowned Danish designer Hans J. Wegner, Paul Smith and Maharam collaborated with Carl Hansen & Son on a limited-edition collection of some of Wegner’s most iconic works including the Wishbone Chair and the Shell Chair. The chairs—now on tour throughout Asia, Europe and North America—will be available for purchase at select Paul Smith locations.

Atelier Courbet partnered with Sabine de Gunzburg who commissioned Serge Poliakoff, Francis Picabia, Matthias Bitzer, Frank Gehry and Vladimir Kagan to create one-of-a-kind 100% pure silk, hand-woven rugs. Each of the rugs are limited-edition and signed by the makers. 

Luca Nichetto, an Italian industrial designer, has created a capsule furniture collection called "50/50” with de la Espada which premiered at New York Design Week. Inspired by Italian architects of the 1950s, the furniture pieces will be launching in the U.S. this September.

Renowned architect Zaha Hadid created the “Crystal Architecture” collection for Lalique, which is set to hit stores this fall.

One King’s Lane enlisted designers Tory Burch, Cynthia Vincent, Stephanie Von Watzdorf, Tom Slaughter, Mara Hoffman and Rachel Comey to design one-of-a-kind umbrellas for the site. Fifteen designs in total are up for purchase and all proceeds benefit the designer’s choice of charity.

Designer Madeline Weinrib created an exclusive umbrella design for the Neue Gallerie. Weinrib described the umbrella as "an homage to the Wiener Werkstatte, with that period's commitment to originality and craftsmanship." The umbrellas are for sale for $48 at the gallery.

Barclay Butera has debuted his latest line of furniture, “The Fresh Face of Traditional,” with Highland House. The collection features upholstery, case goods and accessories reminiscent of classic “Hollywood-chic” re-interpreted for today.

Crystorama is set to debut its collection of lighting with interior designer Libby Langdon. The initial launch at the Dallas International Lighting Market will include three collections: Jennings, Sylvan and Masefield.

UK-based company Graham & Brown launched its first capsule wallpaper collection inspired by the Victoria and Albert Museum’s archive, which spans over 2000 years of creativity. The partnership is a celebration of pattern and ingenuity through the ages.

Gibson Overseas has aligned with designer and wedding planner David Tutera to create a collection of tabletop products and housewares set to debut later this year. The line will include flatware and glassware with a design that will blend with the multicultural audience of his television show “David Tutera: Unveiled.”

Fashion designer Vince Camuto has formed a license agreement with Pem America for a collection of bed ensembles. Under the brand Vince Camuto Home, the collection encompasses six ensembles including bedding and decorative pillows.

Neiman Marcus announced the launch of the Katharine Webster outdoor collection available exclusively at NeimanMarcus.com and Horchow.com. In partnership with the two companies, Webster created an outdoor collection that includes a lounger and ottoman, stripe and ikat covered poufs, mahogany trays, tagine firepits, and colorful patterned pillows.

Furniture and textile designer Richard Frinier has created a new collection of textured, tone-on-tone fabrics for Sunbrella. The Contex collection features twills, herringbones and other textures in neutral tones.

Thos. Moser has partnered with designer Fahmida Lam, who has created the FLC chair, the first piece of furniture to be part of Thos. Moser’s “emerging designers series.”
