November’s can’t-miss events

This month, the design community is finding inspiration and celebrating the achievements of industry leaders at a fresh slate of events. Read on for BOH’s monthly calendar highlights, including conferences, trade shows and design discussions.

BOH Field Trip: Isabel O’Neil Studio
New York | November 2
Join BOH’s first field trip, which takes BOH Insiders behind the scenes at New York’s legendary decorative painting and faux finishing school, the Isabel O’Neil Studio. This hands-on creative workshop will explore hand-painting techniques by demonstrating how to create a malachite finish on a coaster. Attendees can choose from a morning session at 10:00 or an afternoon session at 1:30. In between the two sessions, all participants will have a chance to connect with fellow design community members during lunch at The Milton. For more information, click here.

Dialogues on Design: Courtney McLeod
New York | November 2
In conversation with The Business of Home Podcast host Dennis Scully, interior designer Courtney McLeod will share her unique career journey during this event at the New York School of Interior Design. As a Wharton School graduate, McLeod spent 15 years in the financial services sector before pivoting into the decorative arts industry. Today, she serves as founder and principal of New York–based firm Right Meets Left Interior Design, with an impressive list of accolades that includes the Elle Decor A-List and 1stDibs 50, as well as a role as NYSID Trustee. BADG of Honor by Black Artists + Designers Guild
New York | November 2
The Black Artists + Designers Guild is hosting its second annual BADG of Honor fundraiser and awards ceremony, which recognizes excellence in creative leadership within the Black community. This year’s event also commemorates the organization’s fifth anniversary with an evening of music and cocktails, along with the launch of the Black Joy auction—a sale that will feature art, design services and in-person experiences from BADG makers and donors. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the BADG Mission Fund and education initiatives that include grants, residencies and programming. For more information, click here.

Flower Magazine Baton Rouge Showhouse
Baton Rouge, Louisiana | November 3–26
Flower hosts its annual designer showhouse in a 6,000-square-foot house on the Goodwood Estate in Baton Rouge. The magazine tapped 15 Southern designers to reimagine the space, including Ashley Gilbreath, Arianne Bellizaire, Chad Graci and Rachel Cannon, along with help from local floral and landscape designers. The redesigned space will open to the public for tours on Friday through Sunday, with a portion of proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. For more information, click here.

BOH Field Trip: Jouffre Ateliers
New York | November 10
This BOH field trip offers the opportunity to explore Jouffre, the renowned French upholstery and drapery workshop, at the brand’s new workroom in New York. BOH Insiders will tour the 18,000-square-foot space, which offers an inside look at the creation of custom upholstery, window treatments, fabric sourcing and carpentry projects. The tour provides a chance to connect with Jouffre’s team of experts (including CEO Romain Jouffre) and Pauline Goldszal, director of Ateliers Lison de Caunes. Afterwards, attendees can enjoy refreshments and engage in conversation with the BOH team, including editor in chief Kaitlin Petersen. For more information, click here.

BDNY
New York | November 12–13
Boutique Design New York—a trade fair and conference for the hospitality industry’s boutique and lifestyle design community—returns to the Javits Center this year for two days of programming connecting interior designers, architects, purchasing agents, hoteliers and brands. More than 650 exhibitors will be in attendance, displaying a range of product solutions and services for lodging, restaurant, wellness, spa, club, marine, and senior lifestyle interiors. WestEdge Design Fair
Los Angeles | November 16–18
The latest edition of the WestEdge Design Fair brings together more than 175 brands for a three-day event in Santa Monica’s indoor/outdoor Barker Hangar. The programming includes talks from nearly 50 speakers, along with culinary and mixology demonstrations and meet-and-greets with design influencers. For more information, click here.

Home for the Holidays Designer Showhouse
Atlanta | November 16–December 10
This year, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles hosts the Home for the Holidays Designer Showhouse in a 12,500-square-foot residence in the Chastain Park neighborhood. The showcase features the work of 22 local interior designers—including Justin Q. Williams, Erika Hollinshead Ward and Eryn Houck—with a festive holiday twist, and the space will play host to tours, signature events and demonstrations. Proceeds will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. For more information, click here.

Dialogues on Design: Suzanne Tucker
New York | November 29
As part of the ongoing NYSID speaker series Dialogues on Design, BOH’s Dennis Scully sits down with interior designer Suzanne Tucker, the creative force behind San Francisco–based design firm Tucker & Marks. Tucker has received a number of honors within the design community, including this year’s Albert Hadley Lifetime Achievement Award from NYSID. In a conversation exploring her life and work, the pair will discuss how Tucker’s design approach blends classic and modern influences. For more information, click here.
