Apartment Therapy has a new editor in chief, changes at the top for BDI Furniture, Dornbracht and more

From masthead additions at design publications to a flurry of C-suite appointments, read on for BOH’s monthly roundup of arrivals and departures in design, manufacturing, media and more.

Retail & Manufacturing
Kitchen and bath fixtures manufacturer Dornbracht has named Amy McCabe as its new CEO, the first female CEO in the brand’s 75-year history. McCabe joined the company in December 2023 as the eastern region sales director, and prior to that was the national sales manager at water technology company Lixl Americas.

Stone surface company Neolith promoted James Amendola from vice president to CEO of its North American division. Amendola has been with the company since 2020.

BDI Furniture, the manufacturer of modern home furnishings, has appointed Sol Garay as the company’s new president. Garay brings 25 years of experience in the industry, most recently serving as vice president of global creative and global brands and categories at herbs and spices brand McCormick & Company.

North Carolina–based furniture company Taylor King announced the hiring of Michael Bingham as chief financial officer. Bingham, who began his new role following Spencer Thomas’s retirement, spent the last seven years as assistant controller at Bernhardt Furniture.

Virginia-based manufacturer Hooker Furnishings promoted Bobby Jones to vice president of Hooker Upholstery. During his five-year tenure at the company, Jones has held leadership roles in its two upholstery divisions, PRI and Pulaski.

Cabinetmaker Fabuwood appointed award-winning designer Kerrie Kelly as its new creative director. Known for her California-inspired style, Kelly has been running her own firm, Kerrie Kelly Studio, since 1995.

Neil Hegwood has joined Rugs USA as the chief merchandising officer for the family of brands that includes Annie Selke, Dash & Albert, and Pine Cone Hill. Prior to this position, Hegwood was the vice president of design for Loloi Rugs.

Heller hired Hunter Huebsch as chief digital officer. Huebsch spent the last three years as CEO of Didit, a startup he founded that facilitates knowledge sharing in the sports industry, and prior to that, he worked in digital strategy for Herman Miller.

Furniture company Four Hands promoted Jackie Fitzgerald to vice president of key accounts. Fitzgerald has been with the brand for more than 12 years in numerous positions, most recently serving as the key account sales director since 2021.

Coaster Fine Furniture tapped Mindy Leitwein as its national accounts manager, a new position for the company. Leitwein brings experience from her time as director of key accounts at Dexxxon Digital Storage Inc. and vice president of sales at Linon Home Décor.

Furniture manufacturer Bellini Modern Living appointed Keon Azimi as its new marketing and merchandising director. Azimi, whose father founded the company, has been working across the organization for the past seven years while pursuing a business management degree and a master’s in marketing from York University, which he recently received.

Home cleaning products company Blueland announced two new C-suite hires. Sameer Agarwal joined as the brand’s first chief commercial officer after serving as the senior vice president of skin care brand Supergoop. Jeremy Bruno is the new chief operations officer, having held the same position at Kodiak Cakes.

Los Angeles–based furniture company Homebody welcomed Frans Sjo as its new head of sales. Sjo comes from Swedish luxury bedding manufacturer Hästens, where he was the new-business development manager.

West Chester, Pennsylvania–based lighting and sculptural design firm Yellow Goat Design welcomed Sheridan Markham as a new design associate. Markham also serves as an adjunct professor of interior design at Florida State University and previously was a designer at New York firms Goodrich and BHDM Design.

To The Trade
Jaipur Living welcomed sustainable fashion and design activist Marina Testino as the company’s first-ever global sustainability ambassador, part of the brand’s five-year initiative to elevate its commitment to sustainability and conscious design. Testino is the founder of Point Off View, a communications agency dedicated to sustainability, and she is the sustainability editor at Beyond Noise.

Houlès USA, the maker of trimmings, hardware and fabrics, welcomed Jennifer Block as its new executive vice president. Block was previously at wallcovering company Maya Romanoff for 15 years, most recently as the vice president of business development.

Sanderson Design Group, the British fabric and wallpaper company, hired Scott Christopher Hans as its new senior vice president of sales for the U.S. division. Hans joins from Pierre Frey, where he was the vice president of sales for North America.

New Jersey–based furniture, carpet, leather and fabric brand Jamie Stern announced two new additions to its sales team. Heather Wollitz, based in Chicago, will cover the Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin territories; while Pierce Brinker, who started in the company’s sample fulfillment department in 2022, will become a New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut representative.

Design & Architecture
Robbins Architecture, the Winnetka, Illinois–based firm, expanded its interior services with two new hires: Nick Gutowski, who previously worked at Chicago interiors firm Charlie Greene Studio and New York–based neon sign gallery Let There Be Neon, has been named interior design director, and Kylie Alt, a recent graduate of Texas Christian University’s Interior Design program, is now an interior designer at the company.

New York– and Miami-based Peter Pennoyer Architects hired Arezoo Shafizadeh as the new director of interior design. Before joining the firm, she was a senior interior designer for Ben Herzog Architects and an interior designer at Gensler.

David Buffery joined Paris and Chicago-based design firm Pierre-Yves Rochon in its Chicago office as a principal and senior design director. Buffery brings more than 27 years of experience in design—his portfolio includes The Peninsula Hong Kong and the Ritz-Carlton in Macau, and he was previously the design director and partner at Hong Kong–based design firm Sketch.

Media & PR
Charli Penn has been named editor in chief of Apartment Therapy. Penn joined the brand in 2022 as executive lifestyle director, before which the journalist and communication strategist served as lifestyle director at Essence, where she spent 10 years in various roles.

Stephen Orr has stepped down as editor in chief of Better Homes & Gardens and is now an editor at local Massachusetts publication Provincetown Independent. Orr was at Dotdash Meredith for nine years, where he served as the editorial director for some of the parent company’s other publications, including Magnolia Journal. Before that, he was the executive editor of Condé Nast Traveler.

Fog & Apple, a New York–based communications agency for design, hospitality and lifestyle, hired Alex Bursac as vice president. Bursac has nearly two decades of experience in the design industry and spent 15 years at kitchen and bath brand Duravit, where she was the head of PR and Northeast specifications.

Allison Hay has launched her own New York–based design industry communications firm, Allison Hay Communications. Before going out on her own, Hay was a senior account director for Sharp Think in New York for more than five years.
