We are hiring a full-time Interior Designer with strong residential design experience, excellent technical skills, and the ability to help own and move assigned projects forward with clarity, organization, and care.
This role will work in close collaboration with Becca Meyer, Principal Designer, and the BBMD design team across renovation, furnishing, and full-service residential projects. The focus of this role is supporting design development, translating design direction into clear documentation, and helping move assigned project workstreams forward through thoughtful organization, communication, and follow-through.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, collaborative, and confident working across floor plans, elevations, cabinetry, millwork, finish plans, schedules, specifications, sourcing, and project documentation. They should have a strong understanding of residential design and construction coordination, along with a good design eye and genuine alignment with BBMD’s warm, layered aesthetic.
This is a hybrid position based in the Bay Area, with regular in-person participation in site visits, client meetings, vendor appointments, sourcing trips, installations, and working sessions. The designer must be available for local project travel throughout Marin, San Francisco, the East Bay, the Peninsula, and surrounding areas as needed.

Key Responsibilities

* Support residential renovation, furnishing, and full-service projects from design development through installation
* Own assigned project workstreams and deliverables with direction from the Principal Designer and design team
* Produce and refine technical drawings and documentation, including floor plans, furniture layouts, elevations, cabinetry and millwork details, tile layouts, lighting plans, and finish schedules
* Use AutoCAD and SketchUp to develop and communicate design intent
* Support kitchen, bath, cabinetry, millwork, and renovation design and coordination
* Source and specify finishes, fixtures, furnishings, lighting, textiles, hardware, appliances, and decorative details
* Maintain accurate drawing sets, FF&E and finish schedules, project trackers, and presentation materials
* Coordinate with architects, contractors, trades, vendors, fabricators, workrooms, and procurement partners
* Attend site visits, client meetings, vendor appointments, sourcing trips, installations, and internal design reviews
* Track project details, deadlines, approvals, field questions, and next steps, communicating updates and risks clearly to the team
* Support procurement, including quotes, lead times, vendor follow-up, order details, and installation preparation
* Contribute to studio drawing standards, templates, systems, and workflows

Qualifications

* 4+ years of residential interior design, interior architecture, or related experience preferred
* Strong AutoCAD skills required; SketchUp experience strongly preferred
* Experience with residential renovations, kitchens, baths, custom cabinetry, millwork, elevations, finish plans, and technical documentation
* Ability to produce clear, organized design intent drawings for clients, contractors, vendors, and fabricators
* Strong understanding of scale, proportion, materials, finishes, construction coordination, and detailing
