How a leadership coach taught this designer to navigate work stress with ease

In search of a guiding figure to support and enhance his career development, Aamir Khandwala turned to a business coach who helps him access a powerful flow state.

Never one to shy away from doing the proverbial work—not just the professional kind, but also the personal, emotional kind—Aamir Khandwala knew when it was time to pivot from one kind of support coach to another. Inspired by the positive results he had seen his life partner experience while working with a coach, the New York–based designer thought that route might offer the forward-looking framework he was seeking. “After working with a therapist for a few years, I got really tired of talking about myself and my problems related to the past,” he says. “I realized what I really want is a career coach who can help me focus on the present—to work hand in hand with someone who can guide you a little more, carve the path, and keep you disciplined as you go full-force in the present and future. I am focused by nature, but it provides an additional push.”
