Benjamin Moore revealed its 2017 Color of the Year, Shadow, during a celebration at the New York Public Library’s newly unveiled Jeane H. Gottesman Exhibition Hall last week. The color is described as “a rich, royal amethyst.”
“Allusive and enigmatic, Shadow is a master of ambiance. It is a color that calls to mind a ‘past,’ yet it can also make a contemporary, color-confident statement,” says Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore’s creative director. “Shadow is sophisticated, provocative and poetic; it can bring energy to a space or harmony and a moment of respite.”
The Benjamin Moore Color Studio researches color trends all year, via attending industry shows and following architecture, fashion, textiles, home furnishings and the arts. The 2017 Color of the Year is part of a 23-hue palette that includes:
