Showroom Spotlight
What better way to celebrate a 10th anniversary than by opening an inaugural showroom? Interior, furniture and textile designer Natasha Baradaran did just that.
Located in the West Hollywood Design District—which Baradaran describes as “the epicenter of the design world in Los Angeles”—the 2,500-square-foot space is the designer’s first flagship after offering her products in multiline showrooms and a pop-up location for a decade. “One of the main reasons that I wanted to have a space is to really show [my pieces] through my lens for the first time,” she tells Business of Home. “Multiline showrooms are always edited and curated through the lens of the showroom owner. I’m from Los Angeles, and I’m based out of Los Angeles, so it makes sense to have a flagship that reflects the brand as I see it in this location.”
The shop is enveloped in the company’s signature rosewater blush tone from top to bottom, creating a calming effect that also makes the furniture pieces pop—an atmosphere that’s enhanced by high ceilings and the light oozing in from corner windows. “It’s a great backdrop, and the space is not filled to capacity,” says Baradaran. “I really want designers or end users who come in to be able to experience the space without being inundated with a whole bunch of products.” The flagship is divided into two parts: the textile gallery—where a selection of the brand’s 250-plus textile SKUs hang like large blankets on the wall—and the furniture section, which is filled with smaller vignettes.
Also on display is the designer’s latest collection, Aura: The 14 geometrically unique pieces are outfitted in custom finishes to showcase the line’s full scope. Contemporary designs are juxtaposed in showroom vignettes alongside a curated selection of vintage French and Italian items. “I use pieces like these in my interiors, and to see them side by side with what I’m doing as a product designer and how seamlessly they work together is something I haven’t experienced to date,” she says. “We’ve been working on developing and prototyping and creating Aura for over two years, and for it to be shown in our space where I have art-directed it, curated it and brought it to life is amazing.”
Baradaran sees this new chapter as the perfect way to commemorate her decade milestone. “It is an amazing way to see the evolution of something that started as a six-piece capsule and then grew into what it is now,” she says. “I want to explore and grow these lines, and also [explore] how I show it to the designers in our community.”
