Amanda Levete, Monique Gibson, Billy Cotton and more first-timers named to AD100

The AD100 has arrived! The mag’s annual list of the top interior design and architecture firms added 19 new names to this year’s list—among them, New York–based designers Monique Gibson and Amy Lau, British architect Amanda Levete of AL_A, Norway’s Snøhetta and Denmark’s Bjarke Ingels. Additionally, six names have been added to the Hall of Fame, which debuted last year: Jean Nouvel, Rose Tarlow, Norman Foster, François Catroux, Robert Kime and Juan Pablo Molyneux.

The AD100 newbies—who also count among their ranks The Archers, Billy Cotton, Bestor Architecture, Caruncho Garden & Architecture, Faye Toogood, Fernando Santangelo Inc., Hollander Design Landscape Architects, Johnston Marklee, Vincent Van Duysen, Studio KO, Studio Shamshiri, RP Miller Design, Steven Holl Architects, Piet Oudolf, Perry Guillot Inc., Nate Berkus, Joseph Dirand Architecture and Madison Cox Associates—join Bilhuber and Associates, Cullman & Kravis, Daniel Romualdez, Ike Kligerman Barkley and Kelly Wearstler, among other list vets.

All of the designers and architects named, the magazine states, hew to their own vision: “Whether rule-breakers or defenders of tradition, the men and women of the 2018 AD100 all have one thing in common: uncommon vision.”

The list, which appears in Architectural Digest’s upcoming January print issue, available today, is the second iteration under editor in chief Amy Astley, who joined the magazine last year. The cover features a Hawaii home project by new AD100 member Rodman Primack of RP Miller Design and AD100 architect Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig.

The special issue also includes a look at major public projects, such as Snøhetta’s Lascaux IV museum; the Cittadella Bridge by Richard Meier & Partners Architects; Zaryadye Park by Diller Scofidio + Renfro; a slideshow of light fixtures designed by those appearing on the AD100, like the Osiris Large Reflector Chandelier by Thomas O’Brien; a dive into boutique hotels designed by the AD100 names, among them the Ace Hotel Chicago, by Commune Design; and more.
