Technical Designer
Company: Chused & Co.
Duration: Full-time
Date Posted: 10/11/26
Category: Interior Design
Location: Brooklyn
Salary: 50-100k
Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Technical Designer to join our interior design studio. The role suits someone with strong design sensibility and excellent technical drawing skills.

Working closely with the Principal and Senior Designers, the Technical Designer develops and documents the interior architectural elements of our projects. Because an architectural partner typically produces the construction documents, this role focuses on documenting design intent clearly enough for architects, contractors, millworkers and fabricators to execute it accurately.

Responsibilities

Turn concepts, sketches and selections into clear, accurate design drawings
Produce furniture plans, reflected ceiling plans, lighting layouts, elevations, sections and details
Detail custom millwork, cabinetry, kitchens, baths, fireplaces, built-ins and paneling
Document dimensions, alignments, profiles and material transitions
Coordinate with the architect and flag discrepancies in the construction documents
Review shop drawings and trade submittals against the approved design
Maintain finish plans and finish, plumbing, appliance and hardware schedules
Incorporate site measurements and existing conditions
Track revisions and keep the team working from current information
Attend design meetings, coordination meetings and site visits
Anticipate technical issues and resolve them while protecting design intent

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate pairs a strong design eye with a highly technical mind. They don’t simply draft what they’re given; they understand the design well enough to communicate it precisely. They notice the alignments, proportions and inconsistencies others miss, ask thoughtful questions and take ownership of the documentation. They are collaborative, meticulous and at home between design and execution.
