For the Memphis designer, no project is complete without commissioned work from independent artists and makers.
Over the course of building his Memphis-based design firm, Sean Anderson has developed a calling card: new builds that put locally sourced materials at the forefront, establishing an immediate sense of place. Translating that ethos to interiors is just as essential to his work, and requires a thoughtful approach to researching and commissioning the artisans who craft one-of-a-kind pieces for his clients. “A lot of the materiality and the source materials [for my projects] are coming from the [surrounding] region,” he says. “It’s already such a big part of the construction of the home itself, so I like to add a little nod to that on the interior side.”
