Benjamin Johnston explains how he creates dramatic tension and visual balance through oversize lighting, furniture and art.
A background in architecture often guides Ben Johnston to think of homes in terms of proportion and volume. “Scale is one of the fundamental principles of classic design,” he says. “The way designers use scale as a device not only to storytell, but to approach the balance of elements in a space, is really exciting. I have always tried to find ways to push the traditional conventions of scale to make a space feel dramatic or interesting.”
