In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.
Sierra Fox likes to balance restraint with bold, unexpected details. The founder of Studio Mtn, who splits her time between Los Angeles and Sun Valley, Idaho, is drawn to organic elements and natural motifs that bridge the gap between raw and refined. “I gravitate toward materials that develop character over time,” she tells Business of Home. “They tell a story rather than trying to remain untouched.”
Brimming with texture and artisanal accents, her current flat lay is a thoughtfully curated collection of some of her all-time favorite designs. “There’s a richness and a groundedness to everything here,” says Fox. “Nothing is trying too hard, but everything has a real presence.”
Though the palette is anchored in warm earth tones, the tactile finishes—from a mohair rug to a chair with an integrated moose antler—are what ultimately draw the mood board together. “I like to create depth and dimension through subtlety rather than excess,” she explains. “The details aren’t necessarily loud, but the more time you spend with them, the more they have to say.”
