The designer breaks down his love for vintage lighting in the pages of his new book
Alfredo Paredes never thought he’d have his own book. The New York–based designer spent more than three decades in the design industry—including shaping Ralph Lauren’s global stores and restaurants as the brand’s executive vice president and chief creative officer—but his work was always behind the scenes. “At Ralph Lauren, I was involved with so many things, but could never really take credit for [them],” he says. Now, that’s changed. In 2019, Paredes stepped back from Ralph Lauren, and eventually decided to pursue a career as an independent designer. Six years later, his debut book has arrived: an intimate look at the homes he created for his family. “It’s an opportunity to show a breadth of creativity that isn’t about work or clients’ projects,” he explains. “I wanted to put myself out there and show some more personal things. It became a lifestyle piece about how we’ve lived since I’ve had children, and how I have designed homes that created unforgettable memories for my family.”
