Bradley Odom’s imaginative blend of mixed-metal hardware, veined marble and antique-bronze mirror finishes

In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.

Bradley Odom has a knack for idiosyncratic design elements. The Atlanta designer knows how to strike the balance between elevated and lighthearted by employing a mix of refined materials and frisky motifs in his pattern-rich projects.

His current mood board, brimming with graphic lines and elementary shapes, supplies a supreme case in point. Odom incorporated everything from a two-toned deco-style drawer pull to a geometric Egyptian jewel–inspired velvet into the scheme to make a sophisticated yet spirited statement. “This flat lay is designed for individuals who appreciate both aesthetics and amusement,” he says.

The final design features an array of interesting, unconventional items, including a multipatterned wool fabric and a mouse-shaped ceramic sugar bowl. “The common thread weaving through these diverse items is a sense of playfulness,” says Odom. “We discarded traditional guidelines and sought pieces that exude excitement.”

Here, the designer breaks down the details, from a cypress-print grasscloth wallcovering to a chevron-style jute rug.

1. SC MOUSE SUGAR BOWL BY ASTIER DE VILLATTE AT DIXON RYE

“The milky white glaze of this sugar bowl is such a perfect mix of raw and refined. Each piece is entirely hand-made, and the craftsmanship really shines through.”

2. CYPRESS GRASSCLOTH WALLPAPER IN SAGE BY JOSH GREENE AT SUPPLY SHOWROOM

“Grasscloth inherently adds great texture to a space. This one, from designer Josh Greene, really ups the ante with a beautiful pattern and a completely fresh color palette.”

3. EFFIE RUG IN GREY BY PATTERSON FLYNN

“Sometimes a room needs the grounding presence of a simple broadloom rug to fully cocoon the space. This rug has just enough texture and color variation to keep it interesting without detracting from the calm.”

4. WHITE OAK SAMPLE WITH WALNUT OIL PLUS 2C FINISH BY RUBIO MONOCOAT

“We spend so much time getting wood tones and finishes right, especially on our custom furniture pieces. This sample of white oak with a walnut Rubio Monocoat finish shows the result of finding the perfect pairing.”

5. STEP-01 PULL IN ANTIQUE BRASS BY NEST STUDIO

This piece is a perfect example of what hardware can accomplish: It adds interest and an amazing feel on the hand with its stepped design.”

6. CUSTOM ANTIQUE-BRONZE MIRROR SAMPLE BY DREAMWALLS

“An antiqued mirror, especially when done in a less traditional finish such as bronze, adds a perfect layer of texture.”

7. BYBLOS FABRIC IN CELADON BY PIERRE FREY

“I just used this fabric on a set of 12 dining chairs for an extremely exciting project I’m working on in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta. The velvet is incredibly luxe in an intriguing color combo.”

8. “FINITE THREAD” OIL ON CANVAS BY ROCÍO RODRÍGUEZ AT SANDLER HUDSON GALLERY

“[This is] one of my all-time favorite artists, Rocío Rodríguez, from one of my all-time favorite galleries, Sandler Hudson. Her mastery of color is unparalleled. Her pieces truly ignite a room and bring it to life.”

9. CAIUS FABRIC IN 10725.23 BY NOBILIS

“A stunning fabric by Nobilis.”

10. WISHBONE NAPKIN RING BY DIXON RYE

“We designed these wishbone-shaped napkin rings with an artist in Portland, Oregon, exclusively for the shop. She uses the lost-wax technique to carve them and then casts them out of brass.”

11. MARBLE AND GLAZED CERAMIC TILES BY RENAISSANCE TILE

“My absolute favorite tile [is] going into a Highlands, North Carolina, project. I can’t get enough of the flawless mix of pattern and color.”

12. GRAPHITE CANDLE IN SMALL BY MAD ET LEN AT DIXON RYE

“Each Mad et Len candle is crafted by a husband-and-wife team in the French Alps and housed in one-of-a-kind blackened iron vessels made by the brand’s blacksmiths. It’s the perfect mix of fragrance and beauty.”

“The movement and rich brown veining of this marble makes it the perfect complement to a custom marble vanity I’m designing for my latest project.”

15. VINTAGE BRASS FINISH BY WATERWORKS

“The patina on the vintage brass finish from Waterworks is such a great starting point for the natural life of the finish. I hate revealing a space to a client with untouched, sparkling fixtures, so this finish really allows the space to immediately feel warm and inhabited.”

16. JULIENNE PIPING IN DENIM BY SAMUEL & SONS

“This trim is simple enough to be an accent but offers enough classic texture to make a statement.”

18. JUTE RUG IN NATURAL GOLD BY HOLLAND & SHERRY

19. CUSTOM COLLARED ROUND BAR PULL IN BLACKENED BRONZE AND BRASS BY MATTHEW QUINN

“We used this collared round bar pull by Matthew Quinn in a kitchen recently, and it fits perfectly at the intersection of modern and traditional.”
