This November, a handful of major auction houses are gearing up for sales across the country and abroad. Editor at Large has pulled a selection of upcoming auctions offering a range of treasures—from interior architect David Collins’ personal items to furniture from the Art Nouveau movement and lacquered pieces from Talisman. Read on for a look at what to expect this month from Christie’s, Bonham’s and Sotheby’s:

The Collection of David Collins (Christie’s, Nov. 4, London)

Christie’s is set to auction off the collection of renowned interior architect David Collins, a collection comprising 200 lots with price estimates ranging from £300 to £60,000. In all, the sale is expected to realize around £1 million. Among the furniture, lighting, works of art, photographs and pictures by major 20th-century designers and artists: works by Marc du Plantier, Jean Royère, Fontana Arte, Christian Bérard, Line Vautrin Ado Chale, Wolfgang Tillmans, Steven Klein (including two photographs from the series “Madonna Rides Again,” which were a gift from Madonna), Nicolas Aubagnac and Mario Testino. Works conceived by the late Collins and his eponymous studio, in his signature style, complement the pieces. The sale begins at 1:00 p.m.

20/21 Design (Christie’s, Nov. 4, London)

Christie’s 20/21 Design auction will feature a range of property, including furniture, lighting, ceramics and sculpture from the Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Art Deco, Modernist and Contemporary movements. Highlights include a Carlo Mollino desk, a Jose Zanine Caldas armchair, and an Oscar Niemeyer dining table. The sale begins at 6:00 p.m.

Talisman Auction (Christie’s, Nov. 5, London)

Christie’s will offer a broad cross-section of furniture and objects from design emporium Talisman. A glamorous intersection between antiques, interiors and fashion, Talisman champions pieces that are as much about personality as they are about provenance. The auction comprises 277 lots and presents the opportunity to acquire objects collected by one Ken Bolan, who founded Talisman in Dorset in 1982. Highlights include a Lucite and chrome-mounted teal-lacquered desk, a lacquered-bronze “Ibex” dining table, and a late 19th-century/early 20th-century hanging lantern. The sale begins at 10:00 a.m.

Fine Art and Antiques (Bonhams, Nov. 5, London)

Bonhams is set to host a fine art and antiques auction featuring art pieces by Pieter Brueghel, the Younger and a Williams Gear, among others. The furniture highlights include an early-18th-century figured-walnut and feather-banded escritoire desk on chest. The sale begins at 10:00 a.m.

Arts of Europe (Sotheby’s, November 6, London)

Sotheby’s Arts of Europe sale features a wide-ranging group of French and Italian furniture dating from the 17th to the early-20th century. French 18th-century furniture is well represented by an impressive Louis XV commode attributed to Pierre IV Migeon, while the decorative tapestries and textile section includes evocative 17th-century needlework and embroidered pieces like a beautiful English casket, two Franco-Scottish wool needlework figural panels, and a striking embroidered panel from the northern Netherlands. Highlights from the ceramics section include an un-recorded pot-pourri in the form of a pomegranate (also sold as part of the Property of the Harcourt Family), a very rare Chelsea red-anchor Leveret box and cover, and fine examples of Maiolica, Dutch Delft, Meissen and Sèvres. The sale begins at 10:00 a.m.

Le goût français—Incluant la succession Elie et Inna Nahmias (Christie’s, Nov, 6, Paris)

Christie’s auction will open with 100 lots from the estate of Elie and Inna Nahmias, reflecting their passion for 18th-century decorative arts. Also evident: the influence of architect, interior designer and long-time friend Emilio Terry, who they met at the beginning of the 1960s and admired for his Louis XVII style. The Nahmias often consulted Terry on buying decisions, notably between 1960 and 1963 for the interior of the library at their Paris apartment. The top lot of this collection is a Louis XV writing-table very close to a masterpiece by BVRB discovered in the U.S. and now in Versailles. In ormolu-mounted Japanese lacquer and dating from the mid-18th century, the piece is decorated with lake and mountain landscapes and bronze foliage. Further highlights include an oval parcel-gilt grisaille enamel platter and a rare Flemish parcel-gilt and enamel king collar from The Guild of Saint George (both from the Rothschild collection), and an 18th-century Marseille (Savy) faïence composite part dinner service painted with the famous fish pattern known as “à la bouillabaisse.” The sale begins at 1:00 p.m.

Stay tuned for part two, featuring more upcoming auctions, in two weeks.
