Reporting directly to the Principal, the Senior Designer leads multiple high-end residential projects simultaneously, from initial concept through installation. You will manage full-scope design development, guide and mentor supporting designers, and serve as a trusted point of contact for clients, trades, and vendors throughout every phase of a project. We are looking for someone who takes genuine ownership of their projects, sees them through from the first sketch to the final installation, and takes pride in the result. This position requires a minimum of two days per week in our Manhasset office.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in interior design or architecture from an accredited program and brings a minimum of 7 years of experience in high-end residential interior design and construction. They have strong familiarity with luxury residential vendors and the NYC and tri-state area trade market. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp is required, as is Adobe Creative Suite. Studio Designer or Design Manager experience is a plus. They can produce compelling 3D renderings and design presentations that confidently convey design vision to clients, with demonstrated experience managing projects at every phase from concept through installation. Experience designing bespoke and custom furniture, lighting, and millwork is essential. Proven ability to work with high net worth clientele, with the understanding that this relationship requires as much emotional intelligence as design expertise.
To apply, please send a PDF of your resume, a cover letter, a project list, and a portfolio or sample of finished work. Examples of your drawings including space planning, elevations, and details are encouraged, as are links to your Pinterest or Instagram.
The Senior Designer at K.A. Murphy Interiors takes full ownership of assigned projects, driving each one forward from first concept to final installation with initiative, accountability, and a commitment to exceptional outcomes.
Develop and execute innovative design concepts for high-end residential projects from conception to completion. Create comprehensive space plans, budgets, fixture and finish selections, and furnishing sourcing with particular depth in tile, stone, wood, and kitchen and bath design. Produce detailed millwork drawings, construction documentation, and materials schedules covering paint, hardware, tile, stone, and plumbing. Generate CAD floor plans, elevations, custom furniture drawings, and 3D renderings to clearly communicate design intent to clients and the project team.
Conduct field surveys of site conditions and maintain thorough project documentation including specifications, schedules, drawings, and vendor contacts. Lead proposal packages in collaboration with the Procurement Manager. Generate purchase orders, track orders through completion, and follow up with vendors as needed.
Prepare for and lead client meetings, prepare meeting notes, and maintain clear communication and task tracking throughout each project. Partner with the Senior Project Manager to oversee schedules, trades, and project timelines. Liaise with clients, general contractors, and vendor partners with professionalism and clarity. Schedule and oversee project installations, ensuring all required materials and documentation are in place.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with high net worth clients, navigating the nuances of that dynamic with sophistication, discretion, and genuine warmth.
