New York’s premier boutique design building, the Interior Arts Building, hosted its second biannual event, Design61, on November 3 and 4. The two days of panels and keynotes kicked off with interior designer David Netto in conversation with gallerist Liz O’Brien and wrapped up with a closing keynote by Bunny Williams.
“We were delighted to bring our interior designer and editor friends together at the Interior Arts Building in the name of great design,” said Ellen Niven, principal of NivenBreen strategic communications, who orchestrated the event. “We can only put together top-tier programming with top-tier talent, and we were thrilled to include Alex Papachristidis, Corey Damen Jenkins, Elizabeth Lawrence, Jeff Lincoln, Keita Turner, Martin Brudnizki and Philip Gorrivan—among the many other colleagues whose work we greatly admire—on our panels.”
Additional participants included leading designers Andrea Monath Schumacher, Charlotte Barnes, Jesse Carrier, Mara Miller, Lee Ann Thornton, Richard Mishaan, Sarah Blank and Young Huh. They were joined by tastemaker moderators Tori Mellott of Frederic, Hadley Keller of House Beautiful, Jacqueline Terrebonne of Galerie, Lila Allen of AD Pro, Nazira Handal of the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Clubs, and Wendy Goodman of New York magazine.
The first day concluded with book signings by Ashley Whittaker, Aldous Bertram, and Ferguson & Shamamian’s Damian Samora inside the Newel showroom on the third floor. Guests enjoyed champagne and canapes amidst the spectacular antiques, vintage furniture, and objets. On November 4, Williams, ever the hostess, invited all panelists, keynotes, and members of the IAB community to her interior design office for closing cocktails in celebration of Design61.
