In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.

Ryan Austin Hagood has a knack for architectural design elements. The designer behind Atlanta-based R.A.D. Interiors knows how to strike the balance between creativity and practicality in his sophisticated-yet-approachable spaces.
Inspired by a current warehouse loft project, he crafted his flat lay with an assortment of structurally sound textiles and raw building materials to foster an elevated industrial modern vibe. “The palette feels dark and moody, with lots of layered textures and aged patinas,” he says.
The final design features an array of artisanal touches and natural finishes, such as handmade brick tile and untreated cast-brass hardware, to bring depth to the scheme. “These are all pieces we frequently incorporate into our projects,” says Hagood.
Here, the designer breaks down the details, from white oak flooring to a cheeky toile wallpaper pattern.

1. ELEGANT FLOORING IN PEACEFUL SAND BY CARLISLE FLOORS
“Wide-plank white oak floors are always a go-to when the palette needs to remain light and airy. The width helps scale the room and makes a space feel larger.”
2. KENT DESIGN FLAT SINGLE CRIMP WIRE GRILLE IN ANTIQUE BRASS BY VAN DYKE’S RESTORERS
“Thinking about textures and detail, I love to provide my cabinet guys with a decorative mesh insert for upper cabinets. This mesh has a wonderful weight and finish that keeps the palette feeling aged and worn.”
3. MARMOREAL BLACK TERRAZZO BY MAX LAMB FOR DZEK
“This material is wonderful to work with and comes in tile or slab format. This terrazzo is extra special because of the scale of the aggregate and the pops of ocher, jeweled green and mustard that tie the palette together.”
4. BARTLETT LATTE ROMAN SHADE BY WDS DESIGNER NATURAL SHADES
“A lightweight grass roman is a great alternative to drapery. This grass shade lets all the light in while giving enough privacy to use in a bathroom.”
5. LARGE-SCALE BLACK ALIEN ABDUCTION TOILE DE JOUY WALLPAPER BY SOMECALLMEBETH AT SPOONFLOWER
“I love a quirky wallpaper scene that makes you look twice and a little closer.”
6. COLUMBIA PLATEAU BRICK TILE BY FIRECLAY TILE
“The handmade quality of this tile is gorgeous. The variation in each tile and pop of ocher provide a warm rustic layer to the scheme.”
7. DELILAH TILE IN BLACK BY AUDREY LANE
“This tile is one of my favorites because it is an inexpensive ceramic that has a grid of mini brass rivets. It plays well with other finishes and adds a hint of industrial vibes to this board.”
8. APRÈS COIN KNOB IN UNLACQUERED POLISHED BRASS BY CLASSIC BRASS
“Good cabinet hardware needs to be solid cast brass and heavy. I really love how untreated brass will patina and age differently, keeping this palette from feeling too new.”
9. OPIO FABRIC IN KIWI BY PIERRE FREY
“This wool boucle has an exaggerated loop texture and is the perfect rich ocher color for an accent chair or bench.”
10. HANDLOOM FABRIC IN LINEN BY MOKUM
“This extra slubby (and inherently imperfect) textile drapes incredibly and throws in another great texture to this board.”
11. ZELLIGE TILE IN GRIS PERLE BY LUNGARNO CERAMICS AT STYLEACCESS
“The variations in this zellige tile are magical, and I’m loving the idea of a two-tone checkerboard pattern for a shower surround.”
12. ZELLIGE TILE IN BURNT SUGAR BY ZIA TILE
“I just can’t get over the rough edges of handmade terra cotta zellige.”
13. CLOUD CEILING LIGHT IN AGED BRASS BY APPARATUS
“The featherweight frosted globes hanging from a brass chain feel ethereal and add a delicate balance to this mood board.”
