Rayana Schmitz’s artful curation of raw textures, rich hues and sculptural furnishings

In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.

Rayana Schmitz isn’t afraid to take risks. The Brazilian-born founder of South Florida–based Firefinish Interiors worked as a firefighter for several years before embarking on a career in design. “Rather than prioritizing purely practical forms, I gravitate toward items with expressive, almost experimental shapes,” she tells Business of Home.

Statement-making silhouettes take center stage in her flat lay, while tactile materials and warm, saturated tones ground the scheme. “From softly draped textiles to carved wood and molten glass, each element celebrates movement, craftsmanship and a sense of quiet boldness,” she says. “These are pieces that feel less like objects and more like living forms within a space.”

Fashion-forward details—such as jewelry-inspired stoneware and a fringe-covered chaise longue that evokes a 1920s flapper skirt—infuse the mood board with avant-garde appeal. “Every piece sits at the intersection of art and utility,” says Schmitz. “Even familiar objects like chairs, lighting and vessels are treated as artworks first, with function integrated into their form.”

Here, the designer breaks down the details, from a crumpled coffee table to a Loewe dress.

1. CONTINUUM WALL SCONCE BY LOST PROFILE

“The angular, sculptural shape of this sconce adds depth and texture to any wall, making it as much a piece of art as it is a lighting fixture.”

2. GREEN EYED MONSTER STONEWARE BY EMERSON CERAMICS

“I love how this piece of art feels both soft and strong at the same time, with the delicate woven ceramic contrasting against the heavy chain-like forms. The organic shape and subtle green accents make it feel alive, like something protective yet vulnerable.”

3. CORAL VASE IN GREEN BY CASSINA

“This Coral vase beautifully captures the essence of the ocean in such an artful way. It feels both sculptural and serene, like bringing a piece of the sea indoors.”

4. GREEN ONYX OGGI STOOL BY MARBERA

“This stool strikes a perfect balance between luxury and functionality. The contrast of the rounded square cushion against the smooth, curved base creates this subtle, modern tension that makes the piece feel thoughtfully designed and visually interesting.”

5. SOLEI ARMCHAIR BY MAVO ATELIER AT CASA ANKAN

“This chair is unique and combines so many design elements. It can stand on its own in a room full of furniture and is a true conversation piece.”

6. ALU CAST MARBLE COFFEE TABLE BY BEN STORMS AT OBJECTS WITH NARRATIVES

“This dimensional table transforms everyday space into art by playing with perception, materiality and light. It’s as much a sculptural statement as it is functional furniture.”

7. NESTED DISC LIGHT BY JAMIE HARRIS STUDIO

“This light fixture has depth and is both fun and elegant. The layered discs create a dance of light that changes as you move around it. Every detail is custom-tailored, making it feel completely unique and perfectly at home in any space.”

8. COPENHAGEN FABRIC IN BORÉAL BY PIERRE FREY

“The bold and playful pattern of this fabric delivers a ton of character. The vibrant stripes and graphic checks feel like a modernist painting brought to life, capturing the spirit of Scandinavian design in every thread.”

9. LE DRAPE CHAISE BY HEGI DESIGN HOUSE

“This chaise almost feels like it’s wearing a dress. Its flowing, sculptural lines turn fabric into architecture, capturing elegance, sensuality and stillness all at once.”

10. TWO MORE OTTOMAN SET BY FENDI CASA

“Designed as a decorative element in its own right, this ottoman is not just functional—it really makes a statement. I also love how the frame incorporates those beautiful hand-stitched details.”

11. DRAPED DRESS IN VISCOSE BY LOEWE

“If interior design is my passion, then fashion is life! I love this dress: the multiple draped panels with metal boning, the unique unexpected details that elevate it. The structure from the boning gives it an almost architectural feel, while the draping softens it in a really beautiful way. It falls so effortlessly, almost like a piece of art in motion.”

12. RED RETRO VINTAGE-STYLE ALUMINUM GLASS DESIGN DOOR BY PAMPER HAUS DESIGN

“This red aluminum glass door brings vintage charm and architectural drama to any space, turning an everyday entry into a true design moment.”

13. ECRU GRASSCLOTH WALLPAPER BY MINTWOOD HOME

14. ZOETIC CONSOLE BY STEFAN BISHOP FOR RALPH PUCCI

“This console feels more like a piece of art than a typical piece of furniture. Its organic, flowing form and undulating curves give it a sense of movement and softness, while the light wood finish highlights the natural grain beautifully. It’s bold and unique yet elegant.”

15. LARGE TOMATO LEAVES CANDLE BY LOEWE

“This candle brings the garden indoors. The fresh, green scent of tomato leaves instantly evokes the lush aroma of vines just before they bear fruit. It’s like a little moment of nature captured in wax.”

16. CLAV MIRROR BY STUDIO ALVO

“I love this mirror because it’s more than reflection, it’s sculpture. The organic walnut frame lends softness, while the hand-patinated brass adds depth and mystery, letting light, texture and reflection play together beautifully.”
