Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Kindel Furniture Company has signed an asset purchase agreement to acquire the intellectual property of Councill Company in a purchase which includes all case goods and the majority of upholstery products from the residential and contract furniture maker from Denton, North Carolina. This marks the second acquisition for the company in less than 18 months. Last year, Kindel purchased Karges Furniture Company, expanding Kindel's domestic and international distribution.

"The combined companies of Kindel, Karges and Councill now reflect the best of the best in American craftsmanship, quality and timeless design," says James A. Fisher, Kindel owner and chairman of the board of directors. "The growth opportunities for Kindel and its stable of brands are enormous. We strive to be the company that builds to order and offers custom capabilities in the most extensive sense. It is a natural for Councill to join the Kindel companies."

Kindel is now transitioning production of Councill from Denton to Grand Rapids, Michigan, with plans to hire additional craftspeople. It has purchased select inventory and materials as production begins immediately in Grand Rapids. The company is also accepting orders as of now.
