In the BOH series What I Love, we’re asking designers to build us a mood board of what’s inspiring them right now.
Jennie Bishop doesn’t shy away from bold hues and patterns. The co-founder of Chicago-based Studio Gild approaches each project with a toolbox of striking shapes, graphic prints and sunny pops of color. “Personally, I’m drawn to positivity, beauty and visual comfort to help balance the chaos around us,” Bishop tells Business of Home.
A pale pink underwater-themed silk wall mural by Eskayel serves as the jumping-off point for her current mood board, which showcases an array of zippy pieces, from space-dyed boucle to marbleized concrete cabinet knobs. “This palette is inspired by the freshness of spring—symbolizing renewal, growth and a fresh outlook on life,” she says. “I’m imagining crisp, dewy scents and the soft emergence of flowers and greenery.”
Bishop relied on a time-honored blend of warm earth tones and organic finishes to ground the design, including terra-cotta-colored chenille velvet and red travertine. “The materials I’ve selected echo the freshness of spring, with bright citrus accents, quirky marbles and vintage pieces that add character alongside modern elements,” she says.
