In its new exhibit “Enter and Encounter,” The Design Museum Helsinki, in partnership with the Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo, chronicles Finnish design since 2012, when Helsinki was named World Design Capital. Exhibits span categories including Techno Pastoral, Global Finn, Ecologies, Post-Industrial Crafts, and Urban and Soft Systems, including “Culture and Sompa Saunas,” which showcases urban and sauna culture.
“With this exhibition, we want to describe Finnish contemporary design and its status,” explains Chief Curator Suvi Saloniemi of the museum and Project Manager Kaisa Logren of Ornamo. “The exhibition shows that Finnish design is of broad scope and proceeds from solutions, while at the same time global and applying technologies to a large degree.”
Among the participants are Erich Berger and Mari Keto, CellPod, Aalto University (“Color and Material Led Design” and “Design for Government)”; Kirsi Enkovaara, FinEst Link and Finnjävel. The exhibit runs through October 22. Find more info, including the full participant list.
