What’s the inspiration behind these introductions?
With the Ariso and the Valora collections, we wanted to bring designs to the North American market that satisfy the tastes of the luxury client and sauna enthusiast. More often than not, saunas (and wellness products in general) are designed to be out of sight—hidden in a basement, out in the garage or tucked away in the corner of a backyard. In contrast, Klafs saunas are designed to be showcased—in a wellness room, primary bathroom, even an open-plan living area.
What was the starting point for the sauna styles?
The starting point for the Valora was to build a sauna that appeals to modern tastes and complements urban settings. Most people assume that you need to designate a significant footprint or even an entire room to a residential sauna, but the Valora is designed to fit harmoniously within living spaces—whether that’s a modern home or a high-rise apartment. The full-length glass windows and clean lines make the Valora an elegant choice for a wide range of interior styles.
With the Ariso, the goal was to take the vision of a quintessential sauna and bring it to life with impeccable detail and precision. The use of Scandinavian spruce and dark walnut woods gives the Ariso a timeless aesthetic, while the German craftsmanship and thoughtful technology place it firmly in the present. With four different sizes to choose from (including a five-corner design), the Ariso also has the flexibility to fit into all types of floor plans.
What about these introductions feels fresh and exciting?
Aside from the beautiful and versatile design, the technological innovation that drives the sauna experience really separates Klafs from the competition. With Sanarium and SoftClima technology, the sauna user can control the precise levels of heat and relative humidity to create a wide range of atmospheric experiences—from the high heat/low humidity of a traditional Finnish sauna to the low heat/high humidity of a steam bath. Having this range of climate versatility available at the touch of a button truly puts Klafs in a class of its own.
Are certain materials used throughout, or is a specific material a highlight on a particular piece?
The finest natural materials are essential for creating the Klafs sauna experience. Carefully selected woods from around the world lend distinctive qualities to each Klafs sauna—handles, doors, benches, interiors and exteriors all use the finest woods to make every moment within the sauna exceptional. Scandinavian spruce, Canadian hemlock and dark waxed walnut provide durability, proper thermal conductivity and lasting beauty. Klafs is also the first sauna company to receive Blue Angel certification, which is the German eco-label awarded for environmental awareness in the selection and processing of materials.
How do you envision designers incorporating these bespoke saunas?
Our dream is for designers to see these saunas and expand their imaginations in terms of what’s possible for the interiors they design. Wellness rooms are on the rise, and we think Klafs saunas can be the centerpiece of these exciting new spaces. Klafs saunas are to be celebrated, shown off, and shared with family and friends. Whether it’s creating a private bathroom sanctuary, enhancing the utility of a home gym, or building out a comprehensive wellness suite, Klafs can help designers bridge the gap between form and function. We’re beyond excited to help create forward-thinking spaces that are as useful as they are beautiful.
