We are seeking a talented and motivated Residential Architect to join our team in Newport, Rhode Island. About the Role
As a Residential Architect at FGS, you will lead and support residential projects from concept through construction administration. You'll work closely with clients, consultants, and contractors to deliver exceptional homes that reflect both our design standards and our clients' vision.
Responsibilities
Lead design development on residential projects ranging from renovations and additions to new custom home construction
Prepare and coordinate construction documents, specifications, and permit submissions
Manage client relationships and serve as a primary point of contact throughout the project lifecycle
Coordinate with structural, MEP, and other consultants
Conduct site visits and support construction administration
Ensure compliance with local zoning, historic district guidelines, and building codes
Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative studio culture

Qualifications
Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch)
Minimum 5 years of experience in residential architecture
Proficiency in Revit; 3D modeling and rendering skills a plus
Proficiency in Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office required
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and detailing
Experience navigating local permitting and historic review processes preferred
Excellent communication and client-facing skills
Familiarity with New England residential vernacular and coastal construction a plus
