Dana Bacher Design (DBD) is a boutique, full-service residential design studio based in Beaufort, South Carolina, serving high-end and luxury clients. The firm's work includes the 2025 Southern Living Showcase Home, and the small team of seven handles projects from concept through installation. DBD is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee the internal operations, project management systems, and organizational health of the studio as it enters a growth phase. Acting as the operational backbone of the firm, this person will ensure that projects run efficiently, the team is supported, and the Principal is able to focus on design leadership and business strategy. The Operations Manager will design, document, and implement operational systems where none currently exist and refine those already in place, owning and optimizing the studio's project management and design software platforms and building workflows around procurement, client communication, and vendor management. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing the flow of active projects — timelines, budgets, order status, punch lists, and installs — and setting team priorities based on deadlines and studio capacity. This person will serve as the primary point of contact keeping designers, trades, and vendors aligned, and will identify and resolve scheduling or resource conflicts as they arise. On the financial side, the Operations Manager will identify, evaluate, and recommend accounting tools and software suited to the studio, oversee their implementation and integration, and manage financial reporting to give the Principal ongoing visibility into the studio's financial health. The role also includes light HR-adjacent responsibilities such as onboarding logistics, scheduling, and maintaining job descriptions and hiring materials as the team grows.
Qualified candidates should have prior experience in operations, project management, or studio management within the interior design, architecture, or a related luxury/creative services industry. Experience should include developing and implementing operational systems and workflows, rather than solely maintaining existing ones. Candidates should be comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects and shifting priorities, with strong organizational skills and close attention to detail. Experience evaluating and implementing accounting or financial software is required, along with working familiarity with financial reporting; a formal accounting background is not required, but candidates should be confident researching and rolling out new systems and comfortable providing regular financial visibility to studio leadership. Prior experience with design-industry project management or accounting platforms — such as Studio Designer, Ivy, Design Manager, or QuickBooks — is preferred but not required for candidates who can demonstrate comparable systems experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary, as this role involves direct, ongoing contact with clients, trades, and vendors and requires representing the studio professionally in every interaction. Candidates should be proactive and solutions-oriented, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a small-team environment without extensive oversight or backup support. This role also includes light HR-adjacent responsibilities, so prior exposure to onboarding, scheduling, or general administrative support is a plus. The ideal candidate is highly organized, dependable, and process-driven, with the ability to stay calm and effective while managing multiple moving parts at once.
