Ferguson & Shamamian Architects is looking for a highly motivated and talented individual for a Junior Specifications Writer position. This entry level position offers the opportunity for mentorship and on the job learning. You will work amongst a dedicated team on highly custom traditional residential projects through all phases of design and documentation from schematic design and design development to construction documents and construction administration. Responsibilities include reviewing project designs and writing specifications based on those designs, product research and reviewing incorporation of products into project designs, reviewing project detailing and coordinating detailing with written specifications and reviewing submittals against written specifications. The ideal candidate enjoys working collaboratively and methodically with the desire for personal growth and future leadership roles within their career.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Bluebeam, and familiarity with MasterSpec and specification development interface programs
• Resourceful multitasker with good time management skills and ability to work under deadlines
• Highly organized and detail oriented with good problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ambitious, creative, versatile, collegial, and curious
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Experience editing master and legacy specification documents, generating specifications from scratch, including knowledge and skill with MS Word, and familiarity with specifications content management software
• General knowledge of construction detailing, material sequencing and interface, connectivity and fixity, jointing, forming, assembling, layering, terminating and related conditions, and how to depict detailing at various scales preferred
• General understanding of building science principles and building envelope dynamics
• Familiarity with and the ability to navigate through building code language, regulations and associated legal terms, and the ability to parse prescriptive and proscriptive requirements from codes
• Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management preferred
