Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Drafter Job Captain is an experienced interior architect who owns construction and design documentation and supervises the drafters producing it, in studio and remote. You will set priorities, assign and review the team's work, detail the more complex packages yourself, and hold the standard for every set that leaves the office.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Drawing Production
- Produce and oversee plans, elevations, sections, RCPs, and details in AutoCAD.
- Develop custom millwork, casework, and finish details with designers and fabricators.
- Build and review SketchUp models for design study, presentation, and verification.
- Issue sets at every phase, from schematic design through CDs and revisions.

Leading the Team
- Supervise studio and remote drafters, assigning work and setting deadlines.
- Review and redline drawings, and give feedback that improves the next set.
- Run check-ins and drawing reviews, including by video call.
- Train new drafters on firm standards, templates, and detail libraries.
- Balance workload and flag capacity or schedule risks to PMs early.

Coordination and Field Support
- Coordinate with designers, PMs, and consultants so drawings match design intent.
- Incorporate structural, MEP, lighting, and AV, and resolve conflicts before issue.
- Conduct field measurements and surveys, and build accurate base drawings.
- Respond to RFIs and review shop drawings and submittals.

Standards and Quality Control
- Maintain firm CAD standards, title blocks, layer conventions, and detail libraries.
- Check dimensions, tags, schedules, and notes before every issue.
- Keep sets aligned with building code, accessibility, and NYC filing requirements.
- Improve templates and typical details so projects start further ahead.

About our Company

Ovadia Interior Design and Architecture is a nationally recognized interior design and architecture studio in the heart of Manhattan. We believe the best design lives where art and discipline meet, and we create fully customized, emotionally engaging interiors for high-end homes, from the quiet luxury of private estates in Deal and Long Island to the refined complexity of Brooklyn brownstones, luxury Manhattan apartments, and standout development projects.

Our work blends modern elegance, warmth, and a little bit of magic into every space we create. Every project is grounded in architecture-first thinking, with custom millwork, integrated lighting, and meticulously detailed interior architecture as the foundation. We design across all of it: floor plans, elevations, construction documents, FF&E, and the long, exciting arc of construction administration and install.

Just as important as the work is the studio itself. We are a small, collaborative team that takes craft seriously and ourselves a little less so. We mentor at every level, we share ideas freely, and we believe the in-person studio energy is where the best design happens. Whether you are early in your career or leading projects of your own, you will find people here who genuinely care about both the craft and your growth in it.

If that sounds like the kind of place you want to do your best work, we would love to meet you.
