Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta and interior designer Miles Redd, who is also creative director of de la Renta's home lines, collaborated on an island-inspired gift and tabletop collection debuting this week.
Oscar de la Renta and Miles Redd
Launching with more than 70 products, the collection takes inspiration from de la Renta's native home and lifestyle in the Dominican Republic as well as his ready-to-wear collections.
On working with de la Renta, Redd said, "I feel like I owe him something for everything he has taught me. He is always charming and kind, and I really respect that he handles his business in that way. We’re able to apply influences from the techniques used in his ready-to-wear collections to home. Elegant dip dye and embellishment on rough surfaces are a few influences from the fashion side you can see in the tableware."
Isabela Floral Large Tray (20” x 28”) $795
The dinnerware with an ikat dot motif replicates a pattern from a 1970’s resort-wear print found in the archives; picture frames borrow from ready-to-wear fabrics; lacquered trays use the signature water-color floral and dip-dye methods; and serving pieces come with a recipe from De la Renta's own kitchen.
Dip Dye Serving Platter $185
The duo will introduce new collections twice a year — the next theme being 'City' for holiday 2013, which will be reflective of de la Renta’s home and lifestyle in Manhattan.
Products will be sold in Oscar de la Renta boutiques, online at Oscardelarenta.com and with select retail partners. Bloomingdale's will be hosting a launch party for the collection on Thursday night this week in New York.
