The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) announced the winners of the third annual Best Interiors of Latin America and the Caribbean Competition on April 30. Winning projects hail from ZVA Group of Puebla, Mexico; Taller Leticia Serrano of Mexico City, Mexico; AEI-Arquitectura e Interiores SAS of Bogotá, Colombia; Gensler Costa Rica of San Jose, Costa Rica; FC Studio of São Paulo, Brazil; Cadena + Asoc. Concept Design of San Pedro Garza, Mexico; and others.
FGMF Arquitetos' Botucatu House won in the Residence - Single family category.
Established in 2012 to spotlight the most creative and original interior design and architecture projects from Latin America and the Caribbean Islands, the awards are presented by IIDA and partner Alessi, and were judged by a panel of professionals including Arturo Febry, IIDA, principal, IA Interior Architects; Marlene Liriano, IIDA, NCIDQ, LEED-AP ID+C, vice president and director of interior design, HOK; and James Slade, IIDA, AIA, LEED-AP, principal, Slade Architecture.
CDM Arquitectos' Casa SJA project won in the Residence - Single family category.
“The projects that were submitted to the competition were second to none and reflect the high standard of design in Latin America and the Caribbean islands. IIDA and Alessi congratulate all of the winners on this wonderful accomplishment,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP. Panel judge Febry praised the competition’s entrants, saying: “The entries we received were incredible, with a high attention to detail and design. They reflected many of the cultural nuances and history of Latin America and the Caribbean, which make the regions so unique. We were all greatly impressed by the submissions.”
FC Studio's Ibirapuera Apartment won in the Residence - Multifamily category.
Categories included Corporate Space Large (1,000 square meters and above); Corporate Space Small (under 1,000 square meters); Education (elementary/secondary educational facilities, colleges/universities); Entertainment (casinos, performing arts centers, sports arenas, theatres); Healthcare (hospitals, outpatient clinics, medical facilities); Hospitality (lounges, bars); Hotels (entire property); Hotels - Public Spaces; Institutional (cultural, government/municipal spaces, libraries, religious spaces); Residences - Multifamily Residences; Single Family; Restaurants; Retail (stores, boutiques); Showrooms/Exhibition/Spaces/Sales Centers; and Spas/Fitness.
Mayer Hasbani's Tamarindos project won in the Residences - Multifamily category.
Cadena + Asoc. Concept Design earned top honors within the Showrooms/Exhibition Spaces/Sales Centers category for the firm's Palacio de Hierro—125 Years of Style, Mexico City, Mexico project, while CDM Arquitectos of Zapopan, Mexico, took top honors for single-family residence for its Casa SJA I project in San Juan de Alima, Mexico. FC Studio and Mayer Hasbani earned recognition for their multifamily residence projects.
