Charles Jencks, Shashi Caan and Patrick Baty will be the next Honorary Fellows at the 2014 British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) Annual Conference, “Life-Changing Design: Transforming the Human Experience,” (June 19) at the headquarters of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London.

Jencks, Caan and Baty will join design luminaries Thomas Heatherwick, Sir Paul Smith, Sir James Dyson, Angela Brady, Zandra Rhodes, Deyan Sudjic and others as BIID Honorary Fellows.

Through their creativity, thinking and innovation, Charles, Shashi and Patrick have all made their mark on our profession and shown the positive contribution that design can make on real-world projects and society as a whole. They are worthy recipients of this prestigious honor.”

Born in America, Jencks has lived and worked in Britain for the past four decades where his designs are found in both buildings and sculptural landscapes. He is co-founder of the Maggie’s Centres, a series of practical and beautifully designed buildings dedicated to empowering people to live with, through and beyond cancer.

Practitioner, educator and author, Caan has spent her life immersed in the world of design, focusing on the impact it has on humanity, society and culture worldwide. As President of The International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers, Caan is internationally recognized as a thought leader in progressive design.

Baty is one of the most foremost authorities on architectural paint and color. His active role in both the history and future of many historic British buildings has seen him become a leader in the field of paint, color and their associated histories.

The fellowships will be bestowed during the daylong conference, which will explore the dynamic and positive impact design can have on human thinking and behavior. With the help of a prestigious line-up of inspirational and influential speakers, the conference aims to dissect the nature of good design and assess the impact it can have on our lives.
