Location: New York

Job Description

GRECODECO is seeking a Senior Interior Designer: Project Lead to join our New York–based studio. This role is central to how we deliver projects and is intended for a designer ready to take on increased ownership and responsibility within a growing practice.

The Project Lead will work closely with the Principal to translate design direction into executed work across a range of high-end hospitality and residential projects. This includes leading projects day-to-day, organizing team output, and ensuring that all deliverables are cohesive, resolved, and aligned with the studio’s design intent.

Our work is concept-driven and narrative-led, often within historic or architecturally significant contexts. The role requires a strong design sensibility paired with the ability to carry ideas through to detailed resolution.

This is a hybrid role that sits between design and execution. The Project Lead will be responsible for developing layouts, guiding FF&E direction, coordinating drawing sets, and managing workflow across all phases of design. They will oversee both in-house and freelance team members and act as a key point of coordination between the studio, consultants, and vendors.

A core responsibility is translating high-level creative direction into clear, actionable packages that can be executed by the broader team. The role requires someone who is both design-forward and highly organized, with the ability to move fluidly between big-picture thinking and detailed problem-solving.

This position is ideal for a designer looking to step into a leadership role with direct exposure to the Principal and a clear path for growth as the studio expands.

Job Requirements

6–10+ years of professional experience in interior design, with a focus on hospitality and/or high-end residential projects
Demonstrated ability to lead projects from concept through detailed design
This role is best suited to a generalist designer rather than a specialist. Candidates should be comfortable operating across space planning, millwork, finishes, lighting, and FF&E, and able to move fluidly between these scales.
Experience across multiple typologies is essential. The studio’s work spans hospitality and residential, and the role requires adaptability across both. Strong preference for experience in F&B environments, including restaurants, bars, and public-facing spaces, with an understanding of layout, guest flow, and operational considerations
Proficiency in AutoCAD (or equivalent); ability to produce and review drawing sets
Solid knowledge of materials, finishes, furniture, lighting, and custom millwork
Ability to develop and communicate design ideas through hand sketching (pencil) and quick 3D studies (e.g. SketchUp)
Experience managing junior team members and coordinating outsourced work with remote freelancers within a structured workflow
Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deliver clear, cohesive design packages
Interest in design history, particularly the first half of the 20th century, and the ability to translate references into contemporary work
Enjoys working collaboratively in person and is comfortable with periodic travel for site visits and project development

About our Company

GRECODECO is a New York–based interior design studio founded in 2017, working across hospitality and residential projects internationally. The studio’s work is grounded in a narrative approach to design, with a particular focus on historic environments, adaptive reuse, and concept-driven spaces.

The studio relishes bringing historic spaces, unique sites, and new concepts to life in the twenty-first century by celebrating their idiosyncrasies and layering in references from an array of periods, both real and imagined. The mission is not to meticulously replicate history’s every nuance, but rather to whisk people away on a romantically immersive journey as if in a nostalgic memory, even if this memory could never have existed. With a nimble approach, GRECODECO is adept at undertaking a diverse range of projects, from intimate standalone cocktail bars and grand brasseries to secluded private homes and heritage hotels.

Recent hospitality work includes Sommerro in Oslo, a 250-room landmark hotel; Villa Inkognito, an 11-room boutique hotel also in Oslo; and Six Bells, an 11-room inn and tavern in the Hudson Valley. The studio has also led the reconfiguration of Veronika at Fotografiska in New York and is currently restoring the landmarked Art Deco Oviatt Penthouse in Los Angeles.

In parallel, GRECODECO works on high-end private residences, including an Italian Renaissance Revival estate in Beverly Hills and a 16th-century manor house in England. Across both hospitality and residential work, the studio approaches each project as a complete environment, with equal attention given to planning, materiality, and the detailed development of furniture, lighting, and millwork.

The studio operates with a small, focused team and collaborates closely with a network of architects, consultants, and craftspeople. Work is developed through a hands-on process that moves between concept and execution, with an emphasis on clarity, cohesion, and buildability.
