Job Description

Are you passionate about creating spaces that tell a story? Do you thrive on leading complex design ideas from first sketch through diligent execution? Board & Vellum is looking for an experienced designer to join our Interior Design studio. You will primarily focus on residential interiors for single‑family clients, and you will bring depth, judgment, and mentorship to a team working across custom residential, multifamily, commercial, and civic projects.

We’re a dynamic architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture studio located in Seattle, Washington, where collaboration, creativity, and storytelling shape everything we do. We’re looking for someone who pairs beautiful, thoughtful design work with the technical precision and client fluency that only comes with experience. As a firm practicing across diverse sectors, our studio harnesses a systematic approach and applies it not only to our multifamily and commercial work, but to our custom residential work as well.

You Will:

Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams to develop design concepts and documentation, ensuring alignment with client goals and project narratives.

Pull beautiful design packages together, help curate gorgeous material palettes, and create work that you are proud of.

Take ownership of your role producing project deliverables and engaging in project management tasks (with oversight), focusing on accuracy, quality, and meeting deadlines.

Produce design documentation and technical drawings using Revit with precision and efficiency.

Participate in a collaborative studio culture where your voice and ideas are welcome.

Job Requirements

Experience: 3-5 years of professional design experience with single-family residential design experience required, and a degree in interior design.

Technical Proficiency: Solid skills in Revit are a must. Bonus points for familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, or Enscape.

Documentation Skills: You understand redlines and have experience in drafting them. You have a good grasp of assembling contract documents, and a strong understanding of construction documents, finishes, and material applications.

Execution-Oriented: You are detail-oriented, highly organized, and adept at driving projects forward, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality results. You thrive when you diligently complete your task list.

Design Acumen: You love making things beautiful through a creative eye for detail and a passion for storytelling. You understand how spaces evoke emotion and how every design choice contributes to a cohesive narrative.

Research & Compliance: Comfortable with researching finish systems, materials, fixtures, and product selections to provide support for design decisions.

FF&E Selection: Experience selecting and specifying furnishings, lighting, hardware, window coverings, materials, and finishes.

FF&E Procurement: Experience creating FF&E proposal packages, purchase orders, and expediting to track furnishings from order through installation preferred.

Communication Skills: You can confidently communicate ideas, collaborate with teammates, and engage with clients to bring designs to life. You do what you say you’re going to do.

Excitement for a Variety of Project Types: You are excited to work on a variety of project types including custom residential, low and mid-rise multifamily residential and mixed-use, commercial, and civic projects.

Multitasking: You will work on a number of projects of varying scales at one time, so being able to handle the mix and stay organized is essential.
