Interior Designer
Company: Board & Vellum
Duration: Full-time
Date Posted: 07/22/26
Category: Interior Design
Location: Seattle
Salary: 50-100k
Job Description

Are you passionate about creating spaces that tell a story? Do you thrive on leading complex design ideas from first sketch through diligent execution? Board & Vellum is looking for an experienced designer to join our Interior Design studio. You will primarily focus on residential interiors for single‑family clients, and you will bring depth, judgment, and mentorship to a team working across custom residential, multifamily, commercial, and civic projects.

We’re a dynamic architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture studio located in Seattle, Washington, where collaboration, creativity, and storytelling shape everything we do. We’re looking for someone who pairs beautiful, thoughtful design work with the technical precision and client fluency that only comes with experience. As a firm practicing across diverse sectors, our studio harnesses a systematic approach and applies it not only to our multifamily and commercial work, but to our custom residential work as well.

You Will:
Lead multi-disciplinary project teams to develop design concepts and documentation, ensuring alignment with client goals and project narratives.

Own the design vision on your projects, curating gorgeous material palettes and pulling together packages the whole studio is proud of.

Manage project deliverables, budgets, and schedules, serving as a primary point of contact for clients and consultants.

Produce and oversee design documentation and technical drawings in Revit with precision and efficiency.

Mentor emerging designers through review, critique, and day-to-day collaboration.

Contribute to a collaborative studio culture where your voice and ideas shape how we work.

Job Requirements

8+ years of professional design experience with a strong single-family residential portfolio, and a degree in interior design.
Solid skills in Revit and Adobe Creative Suite.

Author and review redlines with confidence. Lead the assembly of contract documents and bring a deep command of construction documents, finishes, and material applications.

Independently drive projects forward, manage scope and schedule, anticipate issues before they surface, and deliver high-quality results without needing a task list handed to you.

Make things beautiful through a creative eye for detail and a passion for storytelling. Set the design direction on your projects and articulate why every choice serves the larger narrative.

Fluent in finish systems, materials, fixtures, and product selections. Able to defend design decisions with research behind them. Working knowledge of applicable codes and accessibility standards.

Deep experience selecting and specifying furnishings, lighting, hardware, window coverings, materials, and finishes across project types and budgets.

Experience owning FF&E proposal packages, purchase orders, vendor relationships, and expediting from order through installation.
Comfortable directing consultants, coordinating with contractors and fabricators, and holding the line on quality through construction administration.

Enjoy developing less experienced designers, giving generous feedback, and raising the bar for the whole studio.

Lead client conversations with confidence, translate design intent into plain language, and navigate difficult moments with grace.

Excited to work on a variety of project types including custom residential, low and mid-rise multifamily residential and mixed-use, commercial, and civic projects.

Stay organized while working on a number of projects of varying scales at one time.
