Job Description

About the Role
Ink & Canvas Design, a boutique high-end residential interior design studio, is seeking a talented, organized, and motivated Design Assistant to join our growing team. You'll work closely with the principal designer across every phase of our projects, from concept and sourcing through installation.

We're looking for someone who loves design, has a strong eye, and is eager to grow in a busy, collaborative studio. The ideal candidate is resourceful and proactive, and is just as comfortable with the creative side of design as with the detail and follow-through it takes to bring a project to life.

Responsibilities

• Source furniture, lighting, fabrics, wallpaper, antiques, art, accessories, tile, stone, hardware, and finishes, including pulling samples from local showrooms
• Prepare client presentations, design boards, and material palettes
• Assist with space plans, furniture plans, floor plans, elevations, and ceiling plans
• Help develop custom furniture, upholstery, window treatments, cabinetry, and millwork
• Coordinate with vendors, workrooms, artisans, architects, and contractors on samples, pricing, lead times, and product details
• Assist with pricing and specifications for the principal designer's review
• Maintain specifications, sourcing lists, schedules, and project documentation
• Attend meetings, site measures, and site visits, then take notes and follow up on action items
• Organize the studio's fabric, finish, and sample libraries
• Support installs, deliveries, and photoshoots

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field preferred
• 2–3 years of interior design experience preferred; high-end residential experience a plus
• Strong design sensibility and a genuine interest in interiors, architecture, furniture, textiles, and antiques
• Working knowledge of furniture, fabric, lighting, and trade vendors preferred; familiarity with construction a plus
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with exceptional follow-through across multiple projects, deadlines, and shifting priorities
• Resourceful and proactive, able to anticipate needs and solve problems independently
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Professional and comfortable working with clients, architects, contractors, vendors, and trades
• Positive, collaborative attitude and willingness to take on tasks large and small
• Based in the Greater Boston area with reliable transportation for showrooms, sites, pickups, and installs; occasional regional travel may be required
